Duty free at Dalaman

Postby gaylemcvey » 14 Apr 2013 07:58

Are you still allowed to buy more Spirits at Dalaman if you have bought some in the UK, I Know there are limits but some people are saying the Customs at the Exit after baggage reclaim are taking it off you.

You can buy as many as the UK shop will let you and then on landing in TURKEY you are allowed to buy 1 litre of spirits per adult passport

If the men who are standing at the scanner at the exit doors of Dalaman airport ask to check your bags and they then find more than 1 bottles of spirits then they could take them from you

I cant see this scanner catching everyone coming into Turkey as too many planes will land together in the summer and they wont be able to keep up

Rules are rules and they are there for a reason, I was stopped coming from Rhodes and they wanted to take my boiled ham from me until someone else with a load of booze was caught behind me so I made a swift exit

I must of gone into Turkey via Dalaman Airport about 30 times now and last year was the first time I was requested to put our baggage throught the X-Ray machine at the exit door by the Turkish Customs.
Who is to guess will I be asked to do so or not on our next visit this May.

Don't know if I'm being thick, but does that mean that at the scanner, if you only bought 1 litre each in Dalaman it's ok and they're not interested in what you bought in the uk, or is it a total of 1 litre per person including the ones bought in the uk?

I'm confusing myself, probably thinking too much

You could buy from anywhere you want but if he has a mind to stop and search you and wants to take your booze from you, then you will lose it all except 1 litre which is the legal amount you can walk out the door with

Thanks for that John. Luckily when we're in Icmeler it's June/July so hopefully they'll be too busy when we arrive :D

Although remember that is EACH so if you're with a non-smoker just get them to carry them through (that's what I did as my wife had quit). Luckily for me, I've been on e-cigs since December and not really wanted a 'normal' cigarette :)

John, although being an ex smoker I don't really care any more, I remember last year you were allowed to "Import" 200 cigarettes and then buy another 400 at Dalaman on arrival. Has this changed this year?

You can bring in as much as you want, you could by loads on the plane and you can still buy the 400 at Dalaman but if that man decides to stop you and he doesnt want a carton of smokes he could take the lot off you
