Wednesday Market Rip Off!!!

Postby Chris221273 » 17 Aug 2011 18:13

We went again today, against our better judgement, as atleast they tell u prices before u buy, unlike most of the shops on icmeler!
Bought 4 hand bags, and paid a fairly heavy price as they were great quality.
Guy said "I will give u ones without paper inside and gave us wrapped ones.
Got them home, one with no zip, one with no lining and one with the name badge missing.
So to anyone buying, refuse a carrier bag, pay for the ones on your arm and walk away!
4 bags bought, 3 in the bin, as now useless and look tacky!
Never again!!!

Uh oh, valuable lesson learned there. We also learned the hard way (but with us it was boxers!) to check everything and if you see an item you like, make sure that's the one you end up buying. Half the time, especially with clothing, they show you the best items then shove any old rubbish into the bag. These days, we only go to the market for the fruit and veg, which is worth it!

it's a bit of common sense needed , i've heard a few storys like this and i know you get caught up in the haggle but i never buy anything without seeing it or trying it on (family included )

learn from it and don't let it ruin your holiday.

That's ridiculous although I have heard it before, as JT said get to Marmaris, personally I would go when he is setting up as he certainly won't be expecting you, just a tidy profit on the rubbish he sold you. Not sure what time they set up there maybe JT can help. good luck !!

Always take t shirts out of packaging and look....fading sizing etc check stitiching seams .Same with Boxers. Check all seams on everyting. Hopefully you would here at markets so do the same there...if they wont take out of packaging and let you have a good look then walk on by,

We bought some t-shirts as well, from another seller, and they are really good quality and were a bargain!!
Not sure I can handle Marmaris Market, was bad enough going round by Marmaris harbour, so incredibly busy & saw a copper nearly knocked off his motorbike!!

we got ripped off one year from a shop, we bought 20 pairs of boxers and only 4 pairs were the size written on the box. We went back next year, got another 20 checked them all and only paid for 10...job done

I also warned an elderly couple a couple of years ago who were about to be sold a bag of the sugary rubbish apple tea for 30lira

I hate the market - its full of grabbers, fiddlers and robbers...and its no cheaper than the shops :x

Can anybody honestly tell me that they come away with "quality" goods from markets in England ? Surely you get what you pay for and you takes your chance. Bloody hell its Turkey and the more you pay, the better "genuine" fakes you get ! Buy with your head, not with your wish list. Some restaurants chance it, some bars chance it, some trips chance it and some retailers chance it. That is Turkey and its the bestest holiday destination......ever. Mark

I don't care whether its Icmeler or Wigan, they may not be quality goods on a market but they should be 'fit for purpose' and i think they are ripping you off when they do this :)

Quality is not the issue, ive been going to Turkey for 17 years so have a feint idea of what goes on, a dodgy t shirt or handbag goes with the territory...BUT

selling something and trying to fob you off with something different is a 'rip off', adding drinks on to bills, overpricing etc is OUT OF ORDER and with me, you only do it once....and believe me - i will be back next year to sort it!!

Just dont moan when you get caught - like I did with Aegean Airlines.Go back next year - nine times out of ten they are long gone. First visit 1993.(and still excepting it for what it is - and still loving it!). Mark. :D

Many years ago we were in Bodrum. In the market there were packets of socks - 5 pairs for next to nothing. The chap in the market took a pair out to show us and they were very good so we bought them.

Back at the hotel when we emptied the packet, the pair we had been shown were fine.......the other 4 pairs.......no heels in them........Best laugh we had all holiday.

Thanks PatsieJ for giving me a good laugh. I remember buying a bra in a box and on getting it home discovered a dirty old bra in the box. Obviously someone had taken it to the fitting room and changed new one for one they were wearing, so you don't have to go to Turkey to be conned!! I now check out all that I buy.
