Icmeler Doghouse

Postby sausages » 15 Sep 2010 12:52

Having just returned from Icmeler this week i am delighted to have visited the new dog pound which opened in April and walked many of the dogs. They are being very well looked after by Jan and Semi and with the help of Peter from the Three bells. Over the years is has upset me seeing these dogs wandering the streets, craving attention and begging for food and even more upsetting seeing puppies being used to attract tourists into the bars and then to be cast out onto the streets when they are of no use. Myself and my partner spent a couple of mornings at the Doghouse and really enjoyed making a fuss of all of the dogs and had great fun walking them. They desperately need leads/collars, toys etc and obviously money as they need to put on a roof for the winter.
Both Jan and Semi do a great job of raising the sick and injured puppies and alot of their time is taken up caring for the sick animals. All i can really say is keep up the good work Jan and Semi and we will help you all we can :)

Good to know they're doing such a good job. We didn't manage to fit in a visit to the dogs' home in June, but as we're staying up that end of the resort in October, we hope to do so then.

This is weird as it was only last night I was thinking had someone left the gate open.

The square is full of dogs every night of the week

Maybe they are full.

Awww thanks for the update, it's nice to know there getting on ok. I will visit and walk them as well in october, is there ginger one still there ? Did you take any pics ?

It's lovely to see so many members / customers / visits / guest / friends going over to Icmeler and taking an interest, it really must make the mayor proud of the the nationalities that visit for there care and concern.

John I was told a few weeks ago they were full with dogs and had neutered and tagged some and had to let them go back onto the streets, but maybe when Jan pops in she can clarify this ?

Hi JT, Yes as you say there are still alot of dogs on the streets but most of the dogs from Icmeler are at the pound but other dogs are being dumped from other areas and as either you or Colette said the pound is full at the moment. There are a couple of dogs that are left on the streets as they have tried re-homing them but they just wouldn't settle so they have been left to roam but are being looked out for. We are going to try and raise some money for them to help anyway that is needed, whether it is medical costs, the new roof or the everyday upkeep of the dogs. If anyone going over wants to take leads, collars, toys or treats you can leave them at the Three Bells on the top road, and ask them to give the stuff to Peter(Pedro) who does the Karaoke.
Even if you haven't got any old stuff you can get treats and leads/collars from the pound shop and they will be grateful for anything.

You can also leave any items or donations at the ICR office.

I was doing a sponsored walk to the flag next month, but due to medical problems have had to pull out. Will still be donating some money to them though and taking them some stuff over :D

Hi Shastie,
As the Doghouse isn't manned allday you may be better off going to the Three Bells on the top road and see Peter(Pedro)who does the karaoke and he will be able to arrange for someone to be with you. As the previous lady said the pound is just next to the start of the road that goes to Turunc and it is next door to the Pinar dairy.

Anyone know what times the pound is manned?
I know I seen some times posted somewhere but can't remember where!
I'm just assuming that we're going to visit as some collars and dog treats have appeared in the luggage. Dropping stuff off elsewhere will not be an option with these 2!

Hi Bikerjambo,

It's great to hear you are going to visit the dogs they love having visitors and are all so friendly. The pound usually has someone there between about 9 - 12 and then in the afternoon but as i said in a previous message you are better off going to the Three Bells and speaking to Peter who does the Karaoke and he can arrange a time for you to go or tell you when someone is going to be there. I really hope you enjoy going there as it made my holiday knowing that these dogs are now safe and will always be looked after. Also don't forget to take a camera as i did. Give the dogs a cuddle from me as i loved them all. Thanks

Hi, sorry to jump on the end of a post.

I am a dog trainer and myself and my partner will be leaving our dogs for two whole weeks for the first time in 7 years!! we will be devastated and would love to come help out and do a bit of dog walking for the rescue.

We will be staying in Marmaris (Grand Cettia) for 2 weeks from 14th October, can anyone give me contact details or directions to the Three Bells to arrange to do some dog walks.

Also if anyone involved is on this forum what do they need? I can also bring some stuff out.

Thanks Babs

The dogs' home itself is right at the back of the resort, on the road to Turunc, but I think there is a dolmus which goes past it (or quite close to it). The Three Bells is on the main road just along from the Tansas supermarket in Icmeler, so is relatively easy to find.
From previous posts on here, the dogs' home is always on the look out for things like collars and leads, as well as dog treats and toys.

Hi Babs,

As Blondie very correctly said the dolmus does go near the pound but it is much better to go to the Three Bells in the evening to see Peter who hosts the Karaoke. And as Blondie said they need leads, collars, treats and toys. Just to update you since i returned 2 weeks ago they have now got another 6 dogs and Jan is looking after a 4 week old puppy that was dumped so the head count is now well over 50 with some of the dogs in foster homes. It is very touching seeing all the dogs and i have found that i can't stop thinking about them and just how spoilt my 3 dogs are and how those dogs would love their life. But i get comfort from the fact that these dogs are now safe.

Have a great time
Wendy :D

I am not sure about the toy and leads etc.

I have been there quite a few times now and the place always seems full and the same dogs are there so maybe better just buying food in the resorts for them and that way no one can say the money is not being used correctly.

All the dogs are happy and pleased to see you when you arrive.

I have been there at all different times of the day and there is always a nice Turkish gentleman there to help and let you in to see the dogs.

I will pop in today to say hello to them
