Newbie With Questions - Please Help

Postby CornishGirl » 14 Sep 2010 20:00

Hi my partner and i leave for Icmeler for the first time on Saturday, we are looking to keep the cost down wherever we can, and i was wondering if anyone can recommend some cheap restaurants and bars? We went to Hisarouni last year and there were plenty of Chinese and Indian restaurants which did 2 courses for £5, does Iclemer have anything similar?

We are staying at the Blue Star apartments in the old town, can anyone tell me where to catch a Dolmus to the beach?

Also, are there any areas of the beach where you don’t have to pay for sunbeds? Olu Deniz had several large sections where you could just go and lay on your towel.

Is there anything else we need to know before going?

Any help gratefully received.

if you eat your lunch at certain places on the beach then they dont charge you for a sunbed
you will get the dolmus easily and it takes you right into the centre where you will find lots of restaurants offering set menus and deals
hope this helps
have an amazing holiday

We kept our costs down and spent less in three weeks this year than we normally spend in two by having the odd takeaway, especially the lovely Turkish ones instead of steaks every night. We still went out afterwards.

We went to the Florida a few times for breakfast which was 4 TL which was excellent value as well as tasty but most of the time we bought bread from the bakery. The best value meal we had was in the Blue Fox which opened this year. It was a seven course meal. I had the bread & mezes starter that they usually provide, followed by tomato soup, main course, apple pie, fruit, coffee and then a lovely liquor. If your main course was chicken the meal was 22 TL, if a steak I think it was 26 TL. Quite a few restaurants have set meals but we found this one the best.

The price of drinks varies a lot as well. Whilst we were there the cheapest efes was 2.5 TL in Mr Cook but later it went down to 2 TL at the Buffalo bar. Even though it was only 4-5 TL in other places it makes a big difference to the cost of the whole holiday. But there are so many excellent bars to choose from.

If you're self catering you could also go to the larger supermarkets in Marmaris at the beginning of your holiday. There's even a Tesco there now under the name of Kipa.

my wife and i normally in on the beach at deniz kapisi dont normally eat lunch cos we have a late breakfast we take a packet of crisps and nibble on those we do have a few drinks like fanta etc and the sun beer are always free. Also if you are self catering as we are you can get a cooked chicken and some tomatoes and onion and some lovely turkish bread and a few bottles of effes and you have the makings of an excellent meal. We will be there 23rd sept well 24th by the time we get to resort cant wait

hey Cornish girl, I have a few suggestions for you, first off, why not walk to the beach? its not that far from any part of the village and is a nice walk and lets you get to know the area better.
Also, if youre trying to save cash why not get food from Tansas and cook at home? we done that our first year in turkey when cash was a bit of an issue and had some lovely meals for pennies.
If you go to tansas before youre items are scanned by the check out assistant ask for the MONEY CARD, this gets you a lot of discounts of products and the prices with the card are clearly marked for you to see the difference.
I have one and meant to leave it for a friend but forgot to.
