Cashpoint Machines

Postby Doz » 19 Jul 2006 11:13

Hi

Could anybody tell me how reliable the cash points are In Icmeler. We dont normally bother taking our cards but this year we are going to draw money out over there. Are they reliable enough? and do they show how much money you want to withdraw in Lira or GBP? I know we took cash cards to another country last year and the machines were forever breaking down!

Thanks in Advance

Be careful using the cashpoints in Icmeler, we noticed our account was £3000 lighter when we arrived home in the UK, thankfully the money was withdrawn after we had arrived back and the bank were fantastic and refunded the money. It was the HSBC bank we used.

Hi
I've also had problems with my card being "eaten" twice. The first time I never got it back but the second time I had to go to the bank two days later to retrieve my card. Luckily there hadn't been any unauthorised withdrawals. This year we ordered all our YTL's through travelex online and got 2.9791 no commission and picked it up at the airport on the day we left. No hassle and straight into the safe when we arrived.

Last year my niece had her card "eaten" by the cash machine in the square the hsbc one,had a lot of messing around phoning home to cancel the card, then had to arrange money to be transfered over, had to go into marmaris to arrange this.
I always take travellers cheques and a mix of lira and english with me,find it better that way.

Last year we used the hole in the wall opposite Tansas. It was on the outside of the bank and had a camera on it (whether it worked or not I'm not sure). Have been warned on many occasssions about the ones in the square- used them 2 years ago with no problems but was worried for the rest of the holidays if extra cash had been taken from my account. Even at home I hide my PIN when entering it- fraud is as bad here as it is there.

Thanks for all your comments on the cash machine situation. Seems like a pretty mixed bag so still not entirely sure what to do! Might be worth just leaving it... dont want to risk anything! xx

Hiya

I used the cash machines opposite 3bells..next to Alvaro, used to be a turkish restuarant now a bank.
I was a little weary about using it to be honest..but it was quick and easy to use and like mentioned the exchange rate was pretty good.
The guys in the bank are lovely and will help you out if needed

I know last year my mum used the ones in the square and had a bit of trouble..but these ones were fine.

Been using the ones in the Square for years with no problem.
Also you check your bank balance online every day to put your mind at rest.
Don't want to advertise to much but the Dream 3 Bells has 2 PCs that are free to use.
