Complete Noobie!

Postby sartranew » 14 Jan 2010 16:34

Hi, i would just like to introduce myself.
I am a complete Turkey Virgin  , and after umpteen holidays in the Canaries, we have booked to go to Icmeler on the 3rd June 2010 for 2 weeks, we are staying at the Mersoy Bellavista, and i would like to know, what the weather is like at the begining of June. Any other helpful information will be greatly appreciated.

Kindest regards

Hi and welcome to forum! You will be glad you chose Icmeler for your first time to Turkey - it's fab and I'm sure lots of other forum members will be along to tell you how amazing it is!!
June is a lovely time to go. Not as hot as July and August (which I personally find too warm) but you should expect temps of high 30's.
You have chosen a great hotel and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time!

Thanks Tami, i have read some good reviews and some not good reviews, but like i say, not everybody have the same tastes. I hear Icmeler is a quiet and peaceful place, with Marmaris along the costline ( how far is it, and can you walk there along the coastline? ) Our kind of holidays are the peaceful kind ( hence the NO KID Bellavista..lol ) with the option of a livelier night if we require.

After many years of tenerife i decided 7 years ago to have a change and booked icmeler it was the best thing i ever did. this year will be my sixth time only having 1 off to go to altinkum (witch is not a patch on icmeler).
there are many nice restaraunts witch do have entertainment on, there are also restaraunts that are quieter, you will not be stuck for good nights either way. Most bars cut the noise at midnight but remain open for drinks with background music but there are a couple of clubs if you wish to party on.

The people are fantastic and cant do enough for you, the weather is great, the shopping is good, the prices are good compared to the euro resorts,

You (in my eyes) have picked the perfect place to loose your turkish virginity  and will enjoy it sooooooooo much , we have never looked back, we do like to go to other places for hols but try to get here at least once a year.

Hope this has helped you.

Welcome to the forum.

You'll find in Icmeler your money goes alot further. We went to Gran Canaria a few years back and found it expensive, you get alot more for your hard earned cash in Icmeler. Never stayed at the Mersoy Belle Vista but they look nice when we have walked past.
A few hints:

1. Change your money at supermarkets in resort as changing here in the UK the rate is alot lower than that in resort. Also shop around as different shps give different exchange rates.

2. Drink plenty of water as it is alot hotter than the canaries in June expect temperatures in the the high 30's low 40's.

3. When shopping for anything other than groceries never accept the first price they say as it is usually always open for negotiation.

There are loads more but I will leave the rest up to the other Icmelerites on here.

Wow, high 30s  i already like it in Turkey..lol, hope the bottled water is cheap

another question we have is with regards to the best places to eat for different cuisines, we enjoy good old traditional steaks, chinese, even local specialities, so any further advise would be welcome.
Ps. sorry for all the questions but i like to be slightly prepared..lol.

Thank you in advanced.

Yeah it is hot hot hot. Bottled water costs next to nothing.

As for food there is something for everyone, there is Indian, Chinese, Turkish, English even Fish & Chip shops. You will find most restraunts have abit of everything on their menu. But there are places that Specialise in Indian like the Taj Mahal and the Kingsland which specialise in Chinese. The good thing about Icmeler you can make it as cheap or as excpensive as you like. You can go to the Pide places which are like little cafes that do fantastic turkish food at really low prices, most restraunts do set menus offering steak or chicken dishes at set prices usually about 18 Lira for chicken and 22 Lira for steak. Even when you go the more expensive places like the Love Boat which does really good food, the prices are a little higher but still not where near what you pay for the same in the Cararies.

Oops i don't know who told you Icmeler was a quiet and peaceful place, there are quiet bars and restaurants if you can find them but most places are fairly lively, many with entertainment up until midnight when music etc has to be turned very low, i am sure you will enjoy it, i don't know many people who have been to Icmeler and gave the place a negative review :)

In answer to one of your questions yes you can walk along the coast path to Marmaris, and its a lovely walk. Reasonably flat most of the way. Depending how far you want to walk into Marmaris it takes about 1.5/2 hours as a fairly gentle stroll. Best done before mid day as it can get very hot althought here are plently of pine tress for shelter along the way. Once in Marmaris I usually take the taxi boat back to Icmeler which is lovely and costs around £3, 2009 price
