Too quiet ???

Postby shastie » 15 Aug 2009 11:57

I've just spoken to a friend who came back from Icmeler last week. She said that the resort is really quiet and a lot of the restaurants/bars are empty. Some of the waiters are bored with not having enough to do and some have started hassling again to try and get people in (understandable I suppose - they need to make a living). She said a few places had been shut down for a day while she was there. Hope someone can paint a brighter picture. We will be there in 7 weeks and I expect it to be quieter then (start of October), but hope that there will be a good atmosphere in our favourite places.

Margaret there are stop sales everywhere, the hotels are full and the bars and restaurants are very busy

Maybe they came out at 8pm and then went back to their hotel

We returned from Icmeler on the 10th August. We found it quite busy. All the retaurants bars etc were all full or very nearly full. All in all a very good fortnight we had.

restaurants are probably at their busiest at about 9pm. We usuallly go out for dinner about 8:30 that way we are finished for 10pm when the evening entertainment starts in the bars/restaurants.

We only arrived back from Icmeler on the 9th August and we didn't find it quiet anywhere, although i'm sure the recession has reduced the number of visitors somewhat.
We were also out after 8pm for a meal and then out until quite late for a few drinks and the resort seemed to be buzzing (wish i was back there now instead of work) :(

We came back yesterday after twoweeks and we said it was a lot quieter than it is normally May and October but there again we dont usually go in August, only went this year as we were having an extra holiday with the kids and grandkids. One reason I have thought of is were a lot of people like me and found it much to hot to go out and do much at all during the day. I have never spent so much time inside the room keeping out of the heat, even under the umbrellas in the shade there was no respite from the heat. Looking forward to October when it will be, for me, more bearable. Having said that still had a great time.

We found it just right, plenty of people about, bars restaurants full around 9- 10 pm, beach full during the day.
Day time stroll quiet, everyone around the pool or on the beach, night time busy, but not HEAVING busy, which was nice.
Just returned on Saturday 15th after 2 weeks, best holiday ever :)

Judging by the reports the hotels and restaurants are having a better year than they have had for a long time.
There was a Holiday company spokesperson on the local radio station a few days ago saying last minute holidays to Turkey at the moment were hard to find....

When some are saying quiet and some are saying busy maybe we are talking about different times of the day. I am saying it was really busy on a night time but others may be talking about how quiet it is during the day. I have to say I dont go very far during the day so wouldnt comment and I think most people tend to stay around their pools or on the beach etc because its too hot for walking around but it was definately busier on an evening.
