Boat Trip Advice

04 Aug 2009 14:09

Hello everyone, i was just wondering if i could get your opinions/advice......im going to Icmeler in sept for 2 weeks and would really like to go on a boat trip, ive been to icmeler 9 times and still havent got round to doing any trips!! The only thing is my 2 year old daughter will be with me and i was wondering if you thought this would be a suitable trip for her to go on? im just abit worried incase we were to go on the trip and she was to get restless and ruin the trip for others!

What would you do?

My daughter feels the same and our little one is five. The stopping off bits for a swim would be fine as she swims and dives like a fish but the inbetween times she would be bored stiff. Scenery and relaxing on a boat have no charms for a young child. Others may argue that their child was fine but we know our own as you know yours and this is just my opinion.

Very similair views with us. We havent took the lads on a boat trip yet, and think that this is the year to do it. Last time we were there the boys were 8 and 6, and i wasnt going to put them through the tideous (in their opinion) bits in between the swimming and walking around on a secluded beach.

I have heard that there is a half day "Pirate" themed trip - hope so cos this would do nicely

I certainly wouldn't have taken my two on the boat trips at that age - because I know they'd have been bored stiff in between the swimming and excursions off the boat itself. They'd have got restless and I wouldn't have been able to relax trying to keep them occupied and stopping them from annoying everyone else in the boat! That's just my opinion based on how my kids were at that age.
As others have said though, it's a very personal thing, and no-one knows your own child better than yourself - some might be fine and really enjoy it.

Thanks for your thoughts,i was in two minds as few people have said she'll be fine,i have no doubt she will be fine swimming etc as she loves it but it was the bits in-between i was worried about but you have just confirmed what i was already thinking!!

What if any trips do you think would be suitable for a 2 year old? If there isnt any im sure i can cope with a few more years of lying/playing on the beach and in the sea!!

Ha ha, just here to put a spanner in the works, ICR do a half day boat trip and my 2 little ones loved it they have done the trips from age 2 also. If your little one does not want to go in the water the bottom deck is safe and she can even run about!! My eldest daughter now aged 7 took great delight in jumping off the top deck straight into the sea!!!!!!!!!!! I say go for it but just the short one that Donna sorted for us  And the kids have asked to do the same trip this year :D

The half day trip sounds like the ideal solution all round - why not go for that one?

ooohh a half day one sounds interesting!! i think the problem i'll have is actually getting her out of the water back on to the boat without screaming the whole of turkey down!! im definatley going to keep the half day one in mind and see how she is when we get there!! how long are you usually on the boat in-between stops? i think i probably will end up just going for it, i think sometimes i worry more than i need to!!

When we first went to Icmeler our son was 3 and we took him on the boat trip and he loved it. We had taken our own childs life vest which you can pick up almost anywhere now and he wore that all day. He didn't get bored at all because the Captain took a shine to him and he ended up sitting at the front of the boat and steering it most of the time, eating free ice cream and drinking free drinks. He loves water too so he was jumping off from the bottom deck. Last year he turned 7 and he was jumping from the top with his big sister. Maybe just take something to keep her entertained during the boring bits or if you sit down below deck there is usually the whole family there with their own children and grandchildren. Have fun.

As other people have said you know your little one better than anyone and everyone is different. I have always been a bit unsure of boat trips I knew our eldest who is now 12 would be fine but was not so sure about our youngest son who is now 4 (he was 3 when we went on the trip). We brought plenty of toys to amuse him and also plenty to drink as the drinks can be quite costly especially with two children. I have to say he loved the whole experience, it was a bit of a problem when I wanted to go in for a swim on one of the stops and he wanted to join me but we just grabbed one of the life vests and he had a great splash around. As the first trip was so successful we booked another boat trip this time to Cleopatra Island and again we all had a great time. Plan to do Cleopatra again this year - we fly out from Glasgow a week today and can't wait. I am sure if you do go on a trip you will have a brilliant time and your little one may well fall asleep with all the gentle rocking, both my sons fell asleep on both trips - though I have to say the eldest boy is a bit lazy anyway but the yougest is always on the go and when I had a look around the boat most people were having a little doze anyway. Enjoy your holiday whatever your plans. :D

The first time we took our youngest on a boat trip she was about 4 and loved it. This year there was a crowd of us including a 7 month old baby!! We done the ICR trip and all I can say it was fab. Our youngest is now 9 and I can honestly say she wasnt bored in the slightest. Donna was in "charge" and all I can say if Donna's on a trip I can guarantee entertainment from start to finish! The baby coped with everything including having a dip in the sea at the swim stops and she loved it infact she didnt cry once :D
