Dalyan Trip

Postby lincgirl » 19 Jul 2009 17:14

Could you let me know some extra details about this trip please?

Such as departure/return time and how long you get to spend there.

Also as I`ve mentioned on a previous thread my friend suffers from sea sickness so how long do you spend on the boat? She hopes to struggle through a short trip!!

Thanks Amanda

Not done the trip itself but stayed in Dalyan in June so can give you an idea of what to expect.

The sea is too shallow for the boat you will go on so you change over to one of the co-op boats at an island about 300 - 400 metres out and then to the beach, which is big and beautiful, for around an hour. The journey to the village is around 40 minutes with great views over the reed beds and of the Rock Tombs. I did see a few groups having lunch at riverside restaurants during the 2 weeks. Like a lot of these trips they cram everyone around a large table even though there is almost nobody else there.

You then go to Koycegiz Lake and the mudbaths for an hour and a bit. The day trippers go to the ones at the start of the lake whereas local trips go to the ones further around which tend to be much less crowded. I surprised myself by doing the mud bit - really disgusting and at the end I only looked 10 minutes younger! If you do go be careful with the thermal baths, bathwater warm.

Dalyan is lovely so well worth doing.

I've not done this trip since 2002, but if I remember correctly we left about 09:00 and returned about 19:00, the boat journey to Turtle beach was about 2 hours each way.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Not sure if my friend will be able to tolerate the boat trip, whereas i`m more concerned about the mossies...I get eaten alive!!

We`ll see what takes our fancy in 8weeks :D

Sorry should have thought to mention the mozzies.

There were rumours that they now spray like many other resorts - is the Icmeler mozzie man still around? Erring on the side of caution I took a spray called Buzz Off Extra Strength (Superdrug own brand) and used it morning, afternoon and evening. Also substituted lemon handwash for soap/shampoo. It was very hot so even at night I went out in 3/4 or shorts and short-sleeved shirts as pretty much everyone else did and apart from the odd bite had no problems.

Not sure about the ICR version of the trip but I remember seeing reference to others offering at least one-way by bus. It might be worth asking at the office when you get there or, perhaps Donna or 1 of the others can advise before you go. The river is calm enough and, though the lake can get a bit choppy you would not go far out into it.
