Just got Turkish Lire and a bit lost

Postby geordiewoman » 20 Jun 2006 16:49

Just collected our holiday spends and a bit lost with the currency!!

For example how much for basics, such as bread, water, drinks, meals? Just a basic guide would be a great help just to help me get my head round this.

Many thanks

these are the prices I was paying at the market under the ICR offices
When we were there we were getting 284 to the £

Sliced bread for toasting...................2lira
cobs are a lot cheaper
1litre semi skimmed milk..................2lira
5 litre bottled water..........................2lira
Chicken breast meal.........................14lira
steak meal.......................................18lira
breakfasts from................................2.5lira
cup of coffee....................................2.5lira
large EFES.....anything from 60pence a pint 2-4lira
short and mixer................................8lira
Coke......................................2-4lira

just a rough guide you could pay more or less depends where you shop and eat,Tansas is a lot cheaper.
We always take with us sugar, coffee, tea, breakfast cereals for the kids, butter, bicuits for a fuddle on the balcony at night, jam,a couple of spreads, cheese, chocolate again for midnight feasting after a few beers.
the list is endless, depends if you want to eat any meals in the apartment.

To make room for this the wife leaves behind her frocks and blouses but I allow her to use mine.

Have a lovely time.

Watch your bills.

Bread about half a lira! Water about 1 lira for 1litre. Drinks vary , beer not expensive but i dont drink it so cant give you a price! (I'm sure many on here can!) Spirits more expensive but local stuff not bad, imported drinks cost more. You can eat out quite cheaply, depends what you want, wide variety of places to choose from. check out the guestbook section for recommendations. have a great holiday!

I nearly choked on my dinner reading that Gene!! Dont worry your secret is safe with me!!

Again, invaluable tips, were bed and breakfast so not worried about the first meal of the day but my husband and son do like snacks, crisps etc of a night time.

Gene was that you on the picture gallery with your wife and the worlds most hugest yorkshire pudding? if it was you have to give me the name of the restaurant as my son adores them!

thanks to you both

That is the wife and myselfe trying to devour those huge Yorkshires, but we both failed, the pudding melted in our mouths.
Sunday Lunch is served every day with a choice of Chicken Beef or Lamb,
You round this off with apple pie and cream.

Admin is correct it was the 3 Bells on the top road who have a sign with 4 Bells on it.
This is the bar were they celebrate Christmas and have a snow machine.
You can also use their pool and have the use of pool tables internet and
playstation for the kids during the day.
