Mini Rant....

Postby sirkyboy » 24 Jun 2009 10:45

It's a stupid thing to get annoyed about I know, and I don't mean to offend anyone but I'm sick and tired of reading threads consisting of How much will a meal cost, How much will I spend in a week, How much are drinks etc.

Do people not understand how to use the search button?

I thought this site was about discussing Hotels, Holidays etc. Not a consumer information site, especially when the questions are mainly irrelevant, as different people spend different amounts.

A couple going away for a fortnight who like their ale staying in a hotel, will probably spend more per person than a family, who are staying self catering who have a stock of beer/soft drinks in the apartment fridge.

And when an answer is applicable ie. How much does and average steak meal cost, it has already been answered fifty times before.

Mods, is there any chance of putting a sticky at the top, for people to either look at and get the answer to their question before they ask it, or ask it without creating yet another how much thread.

Thanks :D

Hi

Totaly agree with you sometimes the topics can become repetative with a number of threads on the same subject

I hold my hands up sometimes I have posted a topic without using the search button first

I think what Colette and the other mods have done is to try and separate the threads by introducing the general advice forum

The forum is the best there is for information on Icmeler and Turkey long may it continue :D

Valid point sirkyboy. :D

Although no one is forcing you to... log in ,read or even post on this very helpfull website that ICR provide,
I do think that just like the exchange rate prices will go up and down when it comes to meal and drink prices

A sticky thread would help most and new visitors to Turkey and Icmeler.

I find all the info on here very helpful! I think people like to be prepared, especially when going on a long awaited holiday, therefore they need to know how much spending money to save! For a lot of people at the moment money is tight, so knowing what kind of prices u can expect to pay before you go on holiday is very, very, helpful!

Nobody is making you read the threads, whats the problem? When you see the title you know what you're gonna get so don't open it if you're sick or reading them. Plenty of people go on and answer the queries so obviously it doesn't put them out too much and they understand that alot of people who use this forum aren't aware of all the functions available or the questions which have been asked previously. Live and let live !!

I know i'm not forced to read the threads, but sometimes things go a bit off thread and so I tend to have a click through everything to just have a scan.

As swc says, there is a general advice board, these questions are exactly that, just general advice, not related in anyway to the topics of conversation what I beleive this board is for.

The odd one or two is fine, but it just seems like everyday, there is at least one topic about how much does this cost, blah blah.

I'm willing to bet that at some times there will be two on the first page.

One of the problems of using the search facility is the number of results that you get back. Example I typed in cost of a meal and got over 1000 results. Some of the threads were relevant some did go on a bit and off topic.

Personally I find threads like this helpful as it helps with budgeting, people also then give great advice as to which resturants to eat at etc

Over the years I have found many topics duplicated, eg best restaurant in Icmeler and love to read others thoughts and it has also given me ideas on where to go and what to do. Some people may advice a particular restaurant was great perhaps a year ago but now not so good

Rant over

You mean like the Web Cam sticky yes I still have to lock web cam threads every day !!! so in short the answer to a sticky is a big fat NO!!!

As for this thread, I am finding it pathetic. Newbies are just that NEW to the forum, we can't expect them to know about things, some of the newbies have never used a forum before, most don't even know we are a travel agents.

I have found your attitude to this thread a MAJOR dissapointment. I thought we had got past this childish behaviour and were all adults on here with RESPECT for others.

If you want to be treated like children on here carry on, throw your toys out of the pram, but remember I WILL treat you likewise.

Now for pitys sake lets grow up and help other members out on here, supply the newbies with links etc.

I have enough to do on here without wasting my time on these futile and pointless threads
