Just thought it would worth people knowing that the New Mayor is actually the old mayor, my understanding is that he was in charge for about 20 years and was the guiding light in the growth of Icmeler from a small village into the resort it is. He lost the last election in 2002 and has now regained the power.

What ever he is doing I believe it will ensure that Icmeler does not end turning into a Faliraki or Ibiza but will remain the beautiful turkish resort we have grown to love with something extra special.

Haveing just come back from Icmeler and experiencing the fiasco at the market which I may add was on its way to being resolved on the Wednesday before we came back as most of the market stalls were up and running and T shirts were 7 for a tenner due to Mrs Genes haggling skills.
Bars are to be closed for two weeks for Hasseling for the first offence one month for the second and the licence is to be cancelled for a third offence.
Restaurents are not allowed to have danceing shows(this of course very hard to enforce with good lookouts) if caught though the bar is closed..
Most bars are doing the same as normal though and defying the ban
But I only saw one breakdance group,One Michael Jackson and Tina Turner the whole fortnight(a shame really).
Apple Pie man is back selling around the resort.
Bar beer prices are fixed at 4 YTL,although Efes can still be bought cheaper but again defying the new rules and if caught will be closed.
Cheap beer At 2.50 a pint at some places 5TL at the Deniz Kapisi.

The ban is on the restaurents but as I say the rules are still being flaunted and you will still be able to see shows at all the Bars and resturents.
They just have to keep an eye out for the police presense.

I just dont get the fixing Efes at 4ytl, the question is why.

Fine sell it for less as we like to have our choice etc, but dont force them to allegedly sell it at the same price as their neighbour. There's something inherently wrong there.

Its gamble the owners must be willing to take. Trading standards over here would have a field day.

Would rather soft drinks were reduced! at the end of the day for those of us with kids.

Cant wait for your report Gene.

Hi

I was reading another Turkey forum
In the Hisaronu area (Oludeniz, Fet, Area)re efes 4lira.
It would seem as if 4 Lira for Efes is the norm SET price for most of the main tourist resorts.
I think the Mayor in Hisaronu has also set a price of 4 Lira for 1 Efes,
Second hand Info as I have not been to H,

I could understand the thinking behind price fixing if there was a problem with drunken louts - though it tends not to work, I can understand the logic
[edited to add] "though we've never known that to be a problem in Icmeler!!]"

the closure times for breeching the rules on dancing are frightening though, not to mention draconian

I wonder how that will leave places like the Venice, Majestic, Noels etc ....

time will tell I suppose
