April 17th for one week AI at Marti La Perla

Postby Dimples » 16 Apr 2009 15:15

Hi all,

I'm off to Icmeler with my girlfriend tomorrow for the first time. We are both really looking forward to getting away for a week. I am wondering if the season has really started yet, i.e will most bars and restaurants be open, will most excursions be up and running?

I undertand that imported drinks are expensive in Turkey, will there be local spirits availible on the all inclusive i.e unbranded vodka and whiskey etc? I am not really a beer drinker so it'll be spirits or wine for me, does anyone know how much a decent bottle of red would cost in an average restaurant?

Where is the best place to get authentic Turkish food in Icmeler? Or are they any great restaurants that we really should visit?

Lastly I've had a look at some contradictory weather reports for Icmeler, does anyone know what it is like at the moment, how the next week may pan out? I'm wondering how many cold weather contingency clothes to pack.

Hello mate,

I'm lead to believe that most restaraunts will be beginning to open around about now although there'll be quite a few restaraunts open already!

Yes, imported drinks are very expensive in Icmeler. Imported beer is normally around 7 lira. There'll be plenty of local spirits you can drink. 'Raki' is the local Turkish vodka. Unfortunatley, I've never bought a bottle of red in a restaurant but I'm sure someone else on the forum could help you before you leave tomorrow.

Again, I don't really go to eat Turkish cuisine but there's plenty of people on here who eat it. Infact, there's a thread/topic around somewhere about it. I really like the Lemon Tree and Dream Boys but opinions will variate.

I've never been around this time the year but the weather should be nice but not too hot. You'll probably see rain and I think it's worth putting a few jackets in the case that it gets nippy. Someone will probably put you in the right direction for that also.

Have a good time and enjoy.

I've never ordered wine in Icmeler before, as it is quite expensive compared with the other drinks on offer. I've also been told the wine they sell is not very nice, but don't take my word on it as I've not tried it myself.

I'm hoping it will be warm and sunny next week, since we'll be visiting too, but I'm told by some of our Turkish friends who work there that it's nippy in the evenings.

Enjoy your first trip to Icmeler!

I have never bought red wine, but white wine ranges from around £7 - £10 per bottle, I have found them okay, but I am not a wine coinneusseur (sp), I just ask for a bottle of dry white. The cheapest place I had a bottle of wine last year was in Ozzys restaurant, only paid £5 and it was the same wine I was having in other restaurants.

Have a look at the link below which gives mention of Authentic Turkish Cuisine.

I would imagine you would need a cardigan or light jacket in the evenings, but hopefully have some nice hot days. Enjoy your holidays.

Hi sure you will enjoy yourself anyway! First time I went to icmeler was AI at the Munamar and we spent most of our time out sampling the delights of the different restaurants and bars. We both like a few glasses of red but not usually in Icmeler as it is very expensive. You will pay way over the odds.....and I work in the hospitality industry here. When I tell them we do a reasonable bottle for a tenner they cant believe it. I have a disgusting memory but Daluca springs to mind and is fine. They probably will do one where you can get at v small eg cup size AI. They tell me it is a government tax that sets the price of wine so high, even in the supermarkets its expensive compared to what we can get.
