my wife was wondering how turkish people celebrate their birthdays, do they do the same things as we do or do they do something different

We have a turkish friend and when it was his birthday we sent him a birthday card over, he told us this was the very first birthday card he ever had - which I thought was quite sad. But different cultures do things differently. He wasn't even sure exactly how old he was - someone told me that some turkish parents wait until they have a couple of kids and then register their births at the same time  But I don't know if there is any truth in that or if they were just pulling my chain!

Blondie, I don't think anyone is pulling your chain..... I think that a lot of turkish people do not know exactly how old they are, as some of their registered birth dates that appear on their kimlick (? spelling) actually differ from they date they were born on, and yes....I've also heard that families will wait to register other births at the same time. How confusing! :?

Gosh! How strange not to know when your really birthday is. I was talking to one of the local bar owners - I wont say his name or he'll kick my behind! - and he was trying to tell me that he was younger than me...he looks in his 50's  and when he brought his driving license out - he was    so that's probably a prime examlpe! I don't feel so bad now. Thanks for clearing that up for me :D

We were once told that they have up to five years to register, so they can be up to five years older than their certificate states.
