Postby Licky » 31 Jan 2009 16:15

Hi everyone, Fancied trying a hotel with a sea view for the first time this year after trying old village and central location. Has anyone stayed at the Marbas and if so any feedback would be appreciated

Hiya
Never stayed in the Marbas but read some reviews online as I was looking at this hotel. Out of 7 reviews I found only 1 was negative, however I have booked another hotel that is on the beach front if you want any info PM as the hotel I've booked isn't sold with ICR and its BB not all in.

Hi Licky
This was our favourite hotel, up to a couple of years ago, before we made other arrangements, we used it 3 times a year.It is very good value, the location is one of the best you will get, and we can vouch for the cleanliness, and good management. it has had a compleat refurbishment over the last couple of years, and was hopeing to get into the 4* range I believe. The only thing ,and that is, if it is a problem, is that there are very few English, it seems to cater for the germins and Dutch.
If you want you can pm us for further info and photoes of the rooms, balcony views, etc.
Regards
Peli

Sorry to be a pain everyone! I have just found out about the Elif hotel which is on the beach with all rooms having sea views. I can book it for nearly half the price of the Marbas which seems tremendious value! Has anyone been to the Elif and if so any feedback would be gratefully received. A comparison of both if anyone has been to both would be brill. Thanks

Marbas hotel

Postby jivebunnie0 » 01 Feb 2009 19:45

We have stayed at both the Marbas and the Elif. The Marbas was in 2002.....had the usual problem with being given a cr*p room to start with, but because we hadn't paid extra for a sea view, we eventually had a room at the back of the hotel, not overlooking the bins, as the first one had been, but it was overlooking the dolmus terminus. The drivers would congregate in the 'layby' and pee up the bushes. The pool at the Marbas is in the shade and was always freezing. It is also very deep.

When we stayed at the Elif in 2005 you used to have to go to the Blue Rainbow (just through a walkway) for breakfast, although I understand they now do their own breakfast round the pool. This hotel is basic, but very clean and I would not hesitate to stay there again; it has wonderful views (at no extra cost).

Whatever you decide, hope you have a great holiday. 8)

Hi Licky.
I stayed with my family at the Mar Bas in August 2007 and cannot fault it. We were AI and must say the food was spot on, although if you want everything with chips, it may not be for you.
We booked a room with seaview and it was well worth the extra. The views across the bay will stay with me for ever. Also, the walk along the prom into the main resort after dinner was something we will never forget, along with the walk back last thing at night followed by a late night swim!. We loved having the option of both the pool and the Hotels own private beach, along with the guys from the Liberty Bar waiting on us if we so required.
We stayed at the Blue Rainbow last year which was ok, I believe its the sister Hotel of the Elif. Great position for the beach but the only complaint I had was perhaps it was bit to close to all the restaurants and bars. Staying at the Mar Bas allows you to walk into town for all the nightlife and bars etc, but also allows you to walk away from it as well !!!
I'm sure you'll have a great time where ever you go.
Happy Holidays

Thanks for all the replies. We have decided to book the Elif for the 1st 2 weeks in June, mainly because of the cheaper price and the fact that things are tighter this year.does it really matter where you go as long as your in Icmeler!!!!
Really looking forward to it now and the thought of waking up to the sea view, sun and Icmeler cheers me up no end in the midst of the snow and cold we are all suffering from at present. Thanks again. Paul
