"honest opinions,needed"

05 Oct 2008 09:49

me+my partner, judy,,were due to go to icmeler this year..
but a combination of my health+hospital visits has put paid to that,,
so we are now looking to go in march-april of 09,,we are devastated we cannot go this year,[have even had to cancel, tenerife, for the new year]..
i have been on the forum,,reading ALL the posts, and have a few questions for ANYBODY,who has been this year,so here goes...
[1]is icmeler the same as it was 2 years ago,[the last time we were there]
[2] if it has changed,,is it better or worse ???
[3]are the locals, still as friendly as they were [lovely people, could NOT do enough to help you]
[4] is it still great value for money ???
[5] last one,,i know everybody has there own favourite hotel-apartments,,but are the league tables accurate,,on places like holidays uncovered, icmeler online,,holiday truths,ect..
we stayed A/I at the mersoy, when we were there,,but we ate out most nights,,so i would like HONEST OPINIONS of where you GOOD PEOPLE have slept,,you do not have to clog the boards up with the answers to the accommodation question,,you could just pm,me..
thank you for your replies in advance,,WITHOUT people like your, selfs,we would never get to know anything,,,JUDYIAN,,,

Hi Judyian

we went last two weeks of Aug and answer to your questions as follows

1) Yes icmeler has changed
2) would say for the worse due to ever incressing number of boom boom bars
3) Yes they are and still cannot do enough for you
4)This depends on the exchange rate you are getting we found it more expensive as we were only getting just over 2ytl to the pound
5) with having kids we always stay in an apartment this year we stayed at the rhodes apartments in the old village and they are the best we have stayed in in the six years we have been and wil be staying there again next year

1) Yes, Icmeler has changed.
2) It's more of a matter of opinion, I think it has, but it's who you are as a person that interprets if the changes are good or bad. I think they're good.
3) Yes they are.
4) It depends on the exchange rate - when I went in July it was pretty cheap because the exchange rate was good. It's still better value for money than places like Spain.
5) I couldn't tell you the answer to that one. I've stayed at the Pinewood Apartments a few times and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about them and you'll struggle to find a bad review on the internet about them. It says it all really. It's in the Old Village and quiet but 2 mins away from main road/canal etc.

We disliked the Pinewood and moved out after the first week. Personal opinion as everyone has different views and i did do reports on it. Not on here because it is not ICR property.

Fair enough, may I ask why you moved out after one week?

My first time was only 2 years ago. I think yes it has changed slightly when I went 2 years ago it was quiet. I think the bars have moved with the times like everywhere has to. Still think it's value for money, compared to Spain. The locals are friendly stilll. You can still get good value food, drinks have got slightly more expensive, but not extortionate.

I am looking to go back in June next year, so I still love it.

I don't think its much different to 2 years ago apart from a few more noisy bars.
I think the cost has gone up since then but it has everywhere, it's still good value for money.
My friend has just come back from Cyprus where she goes every year and she said that because of the euro the prices had rocketed and she doesn't know whether she will go next year.
We have just booked for Icmeler for 2009, and I believe hols are selling out quickly because Turkey is still such good value.
As other people have said the majority of people are still nice and friendly but you do get the odd exception as I said on my review of my hol.

-Ian and Judy, hope this helps...

[1]is icmeler the same as it was 2 years ago,[the last time we were there] yes - there are still the same quiet places, and also some staff & holmakers are still there, but no - the bars around the Waterfall seem to be in competition for the loudest music (still only until midnight though)
[2] if it has changed,,is it better or worse ??? - neither better nor worse - still great IMO
[3]are the locals, still as friendly as they were [lovely people, could NOT do enough to help you] a DEFINITE YES, though there were the odd folk who chanced their luck, probably due to the low exchange rate and numbers of tourists who weren't AI!! the welcomes are as warm as ever, and you'll still feel like you've "come home"
[4] is it still great value for money ??? - not GREAT value, but most of that's down to the exchange rate........you can still get boat trips for £10 all day including lunch & breakfast
[5] last one,,i know everybody has there own favourite hotel-apartments,,but are the league tables accurate,,on places like holidays uncovered, icmeler online,,holiday truths, ect.
we always stay at a non ICR sc apart - have made soooo many friends over the past few years, we wouldn't stay anywhere else - PM me!!!!
we stayed A/I at the mersoy, when we were there,,but we ate out most nights,,so i would like HONEST OPINIONS of where you GOOD PEOPLE have slept,,you do not have to clog the boards up with the answers to the accommodation question,,you could just pm,me..

FINALLY, just to say sorry to hear you've missed out on your hols this year
am sure you'll have a great time when you get away again
No matter whether Icmeler's changed for the worse (it's not) or whether it's no longer quite the cheap place it was (only slightly), it's far far better than Spain etc for your hard earned hol

hope you catch up on what you missed out on

firstly,,A BIG "THANK YOU" to everybody who has taken the time to answer the questions i posed,,
we were in turkey 3 times in 07,icmeler/altinkum/bodrum-gumbet,,but it was ICMELER ,we really want to go back to,,
i am just trying to get an overview,of peoples experiences this year,,
as forwarned,is forarmed,,i understand the exchange rate fluctuates, and is responsible, for MORE people heading to turkey, for holidays,,
we were,WORRIED,,that it was turning into a mini, marmaris,,we had enough of that in bodrum/gumbet,,so i was wondering if the influx of tourists had spoiled / changed icmeler,,I:E, has it become more rowdy ???

i also really need to know WHERE to stay,,so ANY reccommendations,,or bad reports, would be welcome,[ but will you PLEASE PM,me],with the good, bad+downright terrible,,
me +my fiancee, judy, are really looking forward to going back, next year+ i want it to be as hassle free as possible,[after the terrible year we have just had],i dont think it is to much to ask
THANK YOU,,for all you replies,,,JUDY+IAN,,

Was in Icmeler 2005 and it has changed since then for the Worse, too many fun pubs.
The locals are just as friendly as ever.
It has gone dearer on par with Spain now in my opinion but I do think the days of cheap holidays are gone.
Stayed at the Captain Silver Apartments but looks like next year it is to be a hotel nice location if it is being done up will be a lot nicer.
As for reviews everyone has their own opinion I do find that some people expect gold plated rooms and service but if you book with ICR if you are unhappy with your apartment or hotel they will do something about it.
Hope this helps

judy/ian
why not ring ICR on their UK number [can find it through the link at the top of the page]
they know the Icmeler area sooo well and will be able to recommend the best place to suit your needs

if you decide to book a package through a travel co, it's well worth paying the extra for an ICR transfer - they'll get you to Icmeler much qucker and their drivers are safe, the vehicles are good too
