This year after 17 years will be our first holiday on our own.
[Me and hubby] we go to icmeler at the end of july for 2 weeks.
Our daughter will be 18 and she has decided she is not coming away with us this year,she is going to icmeler with a friend in sept,i'm not worried about her as she knows the resort and is staying at the siesta apts and i know she will get looked after there.
The thing is it just feels so strange her not coming with us this year,we have had week long holidays on our own,but this is different,this is our main or was our main family holiday.
We are really looking forward to going back as we went to cyprus last year,this will be our 4th time in icmeler.
I know it will give us chance to go and do things that we want to do,because holidays usually revolve round the kids.....but it still seems strange.

Hi, karlee. Yeah it is strange going on hoilday without the kids for the first time. It takes a couple of days to realise that there is nothing to worry about and it's only just you two. After that it's fantastic and you won't want to take them again

Just joking, it does feel strange at first but then you realise how much fun you can have on your own, and the offspring are discovering their own holidays having fun without us, so everyones happy. We are like a couple of kids again now, at 45, doing as we please on holiday.
By the way, ours are hinting about joining us again for the next one, (I'm sure it's because we tell them how much of a laugh we've had 1)so they don't leave you for long, Enjoy your new found youth together, we have!

We have been takeing our grandson Andre away to Icmeler for the last 10 years.I think I would find it to quiet if we hadnt got his company to keep us involved in the evenings in the bars or swimming during the day in the pool.
I suppose the time will come when he no longer has the need to holiday with his grandparents.
But we are going to make the most of these very happy times while we can

Gene, holidays with kids are the best times, but must admit we're enjoying acting young a gain for a few years, but relish the idea of taking our own grandchildren away one day, I bet it will be a long time before your grandson gets fed up with holidaying with you! my mum has much more street credit than we do with our kids. And they're 23 and 21! Like I said though I have a feeling they're ready to part with us again.

We had our first holiday in 19 years without the children this year, and chose a new place Icmeler to do it in. I can assure you that I had every intention of not enjoying the holiday, a holiday without my girls (bearing in mind they are 19 and 17!) unthinkable. Besides what would we have in common now without them! The first few days I was on edge I can assure you, but then the freedom! we could do whatever we wanted and didnt have to think of entertaining the children. OH watched the football I read my book and nodded at the appropriate times! we ate, slept, walked, and just had chill out fun. It was also so much cheaper! so much so we think we can afford to go back in September! Dont get me wrong, I loved having the children on holiday with us, but now they are older and off to do there own things, its great for us. Enjoy it, it will be nerve racking, but you get used to it. I still txt and emailed but it did get further and further apart as the holiday progressed! Oh and by the way, I couldnt fault anything with the holiday it was paradise.

We normally go on hol with friends but this year we're on our own.
I agree that when you don't have kids with you you can behave like kids yourselves , you can really let go and enjoy that freedom before all too soon its back to the grindstone
I also agree with Gene about making the most of our grandchildren while they are still young.
My 10 year old grandson Dylan, has just come back from Lanzarote and the other day we were relaxing, busy doing nothing, he said out of the blue, 'it'll soon be 2010, I can't wait' I asked him why and he said 'you and grandad will have been married for 40 years then and we are all coming to Icmeler with you to celebrate'
He remembered us discussing this a couple of years ago. I really hope it will be possible to do this because as Dylan says ' it will be really cool, the best holiday ever'!!!

Last September was the first time i went away with my parents in 3 years.It was strange after not going with them before.I'm going again with them in September but having 2 holidays before too so getting the best of both Worlds.

I know its slightly off topic but do people prefer to go alone as a couple or with friends?
I'm a bit torn by this as its lovely to be in a familiar group but nice to meet new people on your own, I do think people chat to you more if you are on your own as they don't like to intrude into a group.
Hope this makes sense as I usually go out on Saturday night ,but because of the rain we stayed in and I am just having a voddy
