Jayne,do what we do,
catch the water taxi to Turunc on a Monday morning, spend a little time on the beach, then walk round the market at your leisure.
It is more relaxed than Icmeler and is covered by canvas so you dont get any sun burning your head.
After the wife spends a small fortune she forces me to go to the Nirvana bar for lunch were we partake of a few Efes and sample their home made fare.
The following is an extract from their advert.

We have a reputation for serving good food of which we are proud.

Our burgers are all homemade and bear little resemblance to the mass market ones. Served with our own sauces and relishes and a fresh salad they are delicious - we know because our customers tell us so!

A bit peckish but don't want a full meal? Try our cream tea - a fruit scone with cream and jam and a pot of tea. No harm with a bit of self indulgence now and then.

Our desserts really get the mouth watering. Homemade apple pie served with cream or ice cream - some of our customers walk the length of Turunc just for this.

Choose from our range of ice creams and sundaes - absolutely gorgeous and very welcome on a hot day. For the kids we have special toppings and they can make their own creations - fun and yummy!

Then after we have had our fill we walk back to the harbour area and either catch the Dolmus back or use the water taxi again.

The Turnunc market is nice as it's smaller than the Icmeler market, but I found the hassle twice as bad there

Hi Jane

Turunc is about 25-30 mins away. You can get the dolmus there. If your staying in the centre I would advise getting the dolmus to the old village, and get of at tommys bar, then you can change there and get on one of the blue striped buses. It's quicker doing it that way as people have said on previous posts they are not allways relaiable from the centre of icmeler if you are going to turunc. ask the driver in town he'll tell you where to change if your not sure, and he sometimes they don't charge you if they don;t go to icmeler and you have to change over, you just pay the driver on the turunc bus. Depends how kind you driver is.

Hope this helps

Fanny, the market at Turnunc In my opinion is much nicer than the Icmeler market as its smaller, but I found the market hassle worse than Icmeler, it was mainly the women saying " Can I shake your hand" and then they put bracelets over your arms before you can say the word "Efes"

They were everywhere, all over the market, apart from that, much smaller more compact market, and I got no hassle walking from the Water Taxi from bars or shops.

ooh I wore a bracelet and had to take it off, it was only 50p from Primark but did attract them to it  so maybe ladies, wear little jewellry ?

Cheers for the tip Colette
Think we may give Turunc market a miss then, we're taking our daughters who luuuuuv looking at the jewellery stalls, so the ladies draping bracelets on them would wind me up
Looks like we'll stick with the canal stalls in Icmeler and just pay a visit to the bar Gene recommended in Turunc instead

Yes, I found that the first year was a novelty and we bought loads of 'rubbish'. Then for the next 2 years, didn't bother with the market. As you all say, you can buy the same things on the canal market and other shops locally. It's far too hot and absolutely heaving with people and I can think of a better way to spend my Wednesday - a sunbed by the sea or the pool, a nice cold Efes and the sound of kids splashing and having fun...8th August - can't wait :)
