mobile phones

I visit turkey maybe 3 or 4 times in a year, so when they started blocking the turkish sim cards in english handsets, I bought a new nokia 1112 phone from the turkcell shop in Izmir last year including a sim pack and 100 free credits on it, it cost me £35.00 in english money, so i just take that with me now, its a great little phone too! if you look up that model on ebay, you will see what one looks like, its worth every penny...but only if you go quite a lot or for a long time, like a whole season.

Hi AussieEve Great info Thanks I have a Turkish sim card that I put in my own mobile but as its a contract phone I keep having to pay for it to be unblocked yearly when I get the latest one. I'll be taking a trip down to the phone shop this year now! :D :D

Hi Beech,

Yes, good point about leaving it no longer than 7 months before topping up the credit on you turkish sim. If I am not going back until after 7 months, I too leave my sim with a friend and they just make a couple of calls to keep the sim open, I always put 100 credits on it the day before I come home anyway, even if Im taking it home. I was in Istanbul for Christmas, and the transport from the hotel wasnt there at the airport when we arrived, so I had enough cred in my turkish sim to call them cos I had topped up in Icmeler last September, so its good for any arrival emergencies! :D
