Air Duty

Postby sanjo » 12 Mar 2008 18:22

I've just been told by a friend that in the budget today the chancellor has put up the tax on air duty again because of the greenhouse effect.

Does anybody know if this will be added on to our flights this year if we have paid in full or is it going to be added on to the cost of flights for next year?

At this rate the way everything is increasing in price we wont be able to afford to go abroad for much longer
It takes us all year to save for one holiday now.

Sorry for going on just a bit depressed about the cost of living these days. :( :(

Aviation tax
Last October’s Pre-Budget Report 2007 announced that air passenger duty would be replaced with a duty payable per plane rather than per passenger. This will take place from 1 November 2009. The design of the new per plane duty is currently under public consultation.

The above is taken from http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroo ... /DG_073094

So hopefully no increase this year unless it is hidden (as normal) in all the other documentation

Update

Also see section 6.38 on page 98 from http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/media/4/7 ... apter6.pdf

No increase this year.

Don't think they will be alowed to charge you any extra if you've already paid in full.

As I said in my post about passports, typical of this country they'll istiff us any way they can. They give excuses like it's for the green house affect, but it's just a way of generating more revenue from the poor working class people like us.

This government is terrible.

Sorry I get on my political soap box...lol

Didn't stop airlines charging for the increase last year, most T&C's include the ability to charge on any tax increases.

This government is terrible.

1000% behind you on that one but not the place to discuss here, shame we don't have an off topic forum, but they can be a nightmare to manage.
