We arrived at
Dalaman around 3am, and after a tense time waiting for our baggage (had it arrived also???) the cases appeared, and we were on our way. Our
transfer driver was a bit of a maniac and we arrived in
Icmeler in about 1 hour and ten minutes. (So much better than driving round all the resorts and hotels in a coach).
Arrived at the Kontes Beach
Hotel and were shown to our rooms – basic, but very clean, and we crashed until 9.45am. After showering, we emerged down for breakfast, a little late, but as we had arrived at silly o’clock, the guys brought us our first Turkish breakfast and some very welcome coffee and apple tea. The views from our balcony in the centre of the bay were amazing, both by day and by night.
We then made our way to the beach and to catch up with some old friends in the Liberty Bar. They cannot do enough for you, and it always amazes me how they keep going for so long.... They are on duty from around 9am, all day, with a couple of hours break for a meal, shower, shave and change of clothes, then serve all evening, dance, and while you are there they will look after you. We didn’t leave the bar till 3am one morning, so by the time they had cleared away, I should imagine they only had 3-4 hours sleep. Bless!
Did the usual lazy day boat trip – we always opt for a boat which only has about 30 sunbeds, much more friendly than the larger boats. Another day we went on a jeep safari and saw the blue fish – great wet and wild day out, and again very good value for money.
A couple of trips into
Marmaris in the evenings, for a wander round the marina, and the bazaar, followed by a meal on a rooftop terrace – although disappointed that we didn’t get any lavash bread and dips free! A good meal, apart from that, but certainly not the friendly ambience found in Icmeler restaurants.
We were also very pleased to find that
ICR had just the Turkish night we had been trying to find again, after doing this 5 years ago, we had tried to get to the Turkish night at Kervansary Hotel on the outskirts of Marmaris, on various occasions, but usually ended up somewhere else. The show , which included transfers ,meal, free unlimited wine, beer and local spirits and soft drinks was fabulous. There was the usual folk dancers, belly dancers, plus a male belly dancer, fire eater, and of course the belly dancing competition. Thanks once again to the ICR team.
Favourite restaurants in Icmeler include Majestic, Harry’s Bar, Charlies Place, Kontes Villa (on the canal) and of course for some pure luxury, the Love Boat. The presentation of the food is first class.
We enjoyed our couple of weeks, just chillin’ eating, drinking and dancing., but all too soon it had to end and we had to come home.
Lots of photos, lots of very happy memories again, and not too long before we book again!!!
