found some ear plugs here from audio relief.
and will try them this year. I've used their sound protection plugs before and they are recommended by the RNID.
Also try sucking menthol sweets.

my ears were really bad . so this time i used earplanes they are fantastic. well worth the £5

My husband too uses Earplanes and doen't have any problems. As you said well worth the £5
