Lets put the record straight

Postby madazahatter » 29 Sep 2013 19:17

I've lately found myself reading this forum with a hint of disbelief. Only occasionally will I literally put pen to paper or finger to keyboard to air my views.
The forum has been suffering from a depressing trend of negativity lately. Before anyone starts on me I know that everybody is entitled to their own opinion but in my opinion a majority of people are all too quick to complain, moan and grumble when positive matters are overlooked and not commented upon.

I've jut returned from a very enjoyable week in resort and bearing in mind what some people have been commenting upon lately I feel it is my duty to air my views.

1-The resort is no dirtier or untidier this year than it ever has been, but then again I don't go about looking for this type of thing.
2-The place was buzzing, lots of people about spending money.
3-Prices have increased a little, the exchange rate has more than negated any price increases.
4-I was neither mugged, robbed or burgled and surprisingly I never heard anyone mention any form of crime in my presence.
5-The weather was fantastic.
6-The place is changing, change is inevitable but it's still an awesome place to visit.
7-The influx of eastern Europeans is not to everyones taste. The worst behaved people I saw whilst away were British....................some were a complete disgrace.
8-Whats so wrong with people wanting fish and chips whilst in Turkey, I eat Turkish meals in England, so why not English food in Turkey.
9-Efes is awesome.
10-Efes is awesome.
11-As above.

Please read and digest properly before typing any replies or issuing any threats towards me or my family. My opinions are not the law, not all of the time anyway.

Happy hols to everyone.

PS I've already booked for next year and can't wait. 240 odd days to go.

Hi

We just got back from Icemeler on Friday night. I have got to say, we have had the best two weeks ever. In ten years we have went to Icemeler, we have never felt threatened or even in danger of any kind. It's not dirty and l would say there is a lot less hassle. We have friends going with us next year for their first time and I'm sure they will fall in love with Icemeler, like we did.

We know lots of local businessmen, who am sure would help us out if we had a problem. They see us as friends and customers.

Booked up for next June and only after being home for two days, l miss Icemeler.

I agree with all of the above and have also booked for next year.We have never felt threatened but did hear of a couples room being robbed but that is one incident in ten years !Wish I lived in an area with that sort of crime rate.

Well said madazahatter, my point exactly. We all like different things and have differing views on most things, but we are all individual and what I like or my family and friends like is up to me and my friends. We are all grown up now and work hard to have a few weeks of pleasure and leisure time, and I personally cant think of anywhere better than going to Icmeler. We have been coming here for over 25 years now, and yes it has changed as has the world, but I still love the place, the folk in it, the atmosphere and I too have never been robbed, burgled or had anything stolen from me or my family. And in all those years, my children have grown up from being babies to young adults and have been in the bars, restaurants and night clubs in the resort till the wee small hours and never once has anything happened to make them or me feel uncomfortable, scared, intimidated or uneasy. I wish I could say the same about some of the places we have been to
here in Britain, so I would like to see some positive comments, only were applicable of course as not everything can be good all the time.
I work in the worst industry for negative comments, its the done thing to moan about all the other building trades, but its nice now and again to get positive feedback. Its the easiest thing in the world to pick fault with things.
Right, so its a Monday morning and I have now has my little rant, I am now going to have a great week!! :D :D

I agree with all the above, ok so it has changed a bit but where hasn't and some of the changes are lovely as in the square. Its sad when places such as the stalls on the canal disappear, I for one thought they was fantastic, but you have to admit it does look tidy along there now. I don't go to the new stalls but some people might prefer them. I saw people out sweeping and cleaning as usual, if you think it was dirtier then don't blame the Turkish people who in my opinion work very hard, try looking at visitors many of which I have seen discarding rubbish as they walk along with not another thought. We save our hard earned cash for the time we have in Icmeler, enjoy every minute, don't complain, if you don't like it, don't go again. I for one have booked again for next year and will be taking my son and his girlfriend who have never been before, (my son who has never been abroad before) and I am confident they are going to love Icmeler just as much as we do. I wish I was there now in truth be known

I don't think most of the comments were meant to be negative. The problem is that Icmeler has such high standards and if there is a 'blip' it's obvious that it will be aired on this forum. I always think that if you have any comments it is better to mention them as constructive criticism is a good thing. I don't think that people are being negative as we wouldn't be going back year after year.

This year we were on holiday for 25 days and next year will be for 23 days, if my opinions were negative I certainly wouldn't be returning. My comment on the litter was due to the fact that my husband and I both use wheelchairs and Icmeler is ideal for us. This is the first year that we have had to swerve to avoid rubbish on the roads and this was every day of the holiday, this was only in the streets in the Old Village and not in the centre. Even with this 'blip' the standard in the resort is high and would definitely recommend it to others.

In the main, I agree with the comments but I think tourists help with the litter etc. If forum members do not like what they see, nobody forces them to return to Icmeler - let their feet do the talking :!: Personally, I feel very safe and will keep on returning as I know what I'm going to get and thoroughly enjoy it. Icmeler has changed over the years, not all for the best, but what town/village do these moaners live in where their town/village has remained unchanged. :!: :!:

I totally agree. I am here at the moment and having a fantastic time. Staying once again in Vinces ( Demircioglu) and are enjoying the amazing hospitality here and in every place we have visited to eat, drink or both. I have nothing negative to report about the resort. Only 'arsey' people we have seen ( on a couple of occasions) when we have been out and about were Brits!
Oh, and a fantastic exchange rate of 3.225 today in Wonder Bar. :D

All very good points, especially about the Efes. Totally agree with those 3 points made
I have been having a serious think about next year's holibobs and I am not sure if Icmeler will be on my list, and not because of any negative comments made by anyone on here. I have been twice this year and would have been going again till my friend pulled out, plus I am not sure the weather would have been that good late on in October. I have to say, I was one of the members who made a point of saying I thought the resort looked a little dirtier than usual, I did only notice that down the back road near the dry canal though, in the main it was as clean as normal and of course the new square looks immaculate.

Totally agree with you. We arrived home on Tuesday after yet another great holiday. Not dirty, not expensive, good exchange rate, never feel threatened, all very friendly. Road sweepers out most nights, rubbish collected regularly.
Booked again for next year about 2 months ago, this will be our 16th year, most years - twice a year.
Love the new square, miss the canal stalls, but hey oh, change is fine as long as they don't turn it into Marmaris, now there's a dirty hole. Just take a walk down bar street in the day !!!

Oh, and yes the EFES is great & I don't like lager at home.

We got back on Friday morning after 14 days in Icmeler - we had a couple of issues with our all inclusive hotel, but not enough to ruin the hols.

Icmeler people are still SO friendly, and really work at making your holiday a good one in their town.

No hassle - good banter around the place - I am sorry that the small canal stalls have gone - these were the places where we looked to buy gifts from the smaller artisans.

Still my favourite Turkish resort !

We have spent the last few years travelling to different resorts in Turkey and can honestly say Icmeler has everything. Great weather, great people, it is still cheap compared to anywhere that has the Euro, great bars, restaurants and entertainment. We have been a few times this year and last stayed in September. We know quite a lot of Turkish/Kurdish people now and they all say that the mayor there is very unpopular. He seems to want to change Icmeler and make it more traditional. There was talk of the music having to stop at 10.00 p.m. next year which would just kill things in my opinion. I think 12.00 midnight is a fair compromise. You can still sit in the bars and chat and usually they put on music but keep it low. From a safety point of view I have never ever felt unsafe or ever heard of anyone having any problems i.e. break ins or robberies etc. In fact I once dropped my purse outside a restaurant and they picked it up and kept it behind the bar for me to collect. I have already booked two holidays for next year as we all love it. Wish I was there now!!!

I was one of those who commented that the resort did look dirty and in some parts of the old village at the start of the season, in mid May that was certainly the case, in comparision to previous years. Not so much litter more bushes and leaves etc some of which had been swept up into piles but were still lying there in same position a week later.Maybe this was a one off, but it will not put me off and I am back again next May
