flying from Gatwick alone.

Postby Amy- Mansfield » 20 Jul 2013 08:29

hello all, this years holiday is a bit different as i've moved away from home and didnt think id be coming to Icmeler this year, but of course, mum and dad to the rescue! i can't go for the full 2 weeks as time off work is limited but i will be joining them for 9 Nights during their holiday :)

we usually fly from B'ham, Manchester or East Mids but as i'm now living in the south i will be flying from Gatwick on my own. i've never flown from Gatwick and was just wondering if anyone has any advice, just things like, are the gates a long walk from the terminal (so i don't spend too much time in duty free  )

Thanks in advance for any replies :) x

I live up north and usually fly from Birmingham, East Mids etc. I've flown from Gatwick a couple of times most recently last September. Everything about Gatwick is just on a larger scale than the places I'm used to.
Just allow yourself a bit of extra time to do everything.

Hi madazahatter, thanks for the reply! yes, thats what i was thinking, i'm actually getting the train to the airport as the line closest to us runs the reading to gatwick train so it will take an hour with no changes, will be getting the train an hour before i actually need to just in case there are any delays! x

Gatwick is a great airport and the duty free plus eating places are brilliant. All gates are 10 mins from the main terminal. When your gate shows, go then. Turn around is quick so you'll get down there and before you know it you'll be boarding. Don't know what's more daunting flying from Gatwick alone or Dalaman alone! I've done both, you'll have no problems. Enjoy your holiday.

Hi Sami, thanks for the reply, hope your having a great holiday? I'm feeling ok about flying out and back on my own, we've been coming to icmeler since 2003 so i'm quite familiar with Dalaman airport but never actually done it on my own! thanks for the info about Gatwick x

I imagine if you let people know when you are passing through there will be other icmeler travellers you could briefly team up with
My only advice is to book in as soon as you can and get through to departures as this will get you maximum duty free time.
If you arrive really early and your check in is not open keep an eye out as to where it will be - normally through the entrance doors and turn left. Then nip off for a tea or coffee or a pint if need be.
Good luck as it will be packed at peak times.

Hi fatblokecaver, thanks for the reply! I'm on the 16.55 flight with Monarch on 1st sept. i've got online check in so will just need to do bag drop, i'm hoping to be at the airport for 1 pm, a bit early but the trains only run every hour on a sunday so i'm planning ahead in case of delays! as soon as ive got rid of my bag i'll be going straight through for a bit of duty free and maybe a cheeky glass of wine  Thanks for the advice :) x
