Spending Money

30 May 2013 11:06

Hi

Ive posted before regarding alocohol prices etc...but im just wondering how much spending money for the week would be enough. Im roughly bringing around 400-500 but im unsure as to whether or not that will b sufficient. My main concern is alcohol prices and Taxi's running after midnight. I've heard that purchasing alcohol at a shop and drinking it back at the apartments is a handy thing to do and can make the nightlife a bit cheaper. Also would it be a good idea to buy alcohol at duty free and bring that back to the apartment. Asking this on behalf of myself and a friend who will be going with family near the end of July....

Thanks.

I take about £400 for a week whenever I go. That works for me with eating breakfast everyday, eating out every night and drink from beer o'clock onwards. Plus a couple of excursions incl boat trip and Turkish bath.

I'm not sure about the taxi's as we mostly walked or got the Dolmus.

Is that just for one Walsh?

Last year I took £1200 for 3 of us for 10 days, had a few excursions (Turkish bath, boat trip, atlantis aqua park and jeep safari).
We had pretty much spent up by the end of the hols.

This year I'm keeping back £400-£500 for excursions and taking around £2,000 spending money (again for 3 of us). This year I hope to bring some back as we're travelling down to Plymouth for a friends 25th wedding anniversary boat trip. Spending the weekend (2 nights B&B) in a 4 star hotel plus drinks on the boat trip will need a lot of money (budgeting around £300-£400).

Regarding buying duty free at airport (or on plane) is a good idea but make sure you don't exceed the limit or they may confiscate it (if they find it lol).

Yes thats just for me sunseeker..i probably won't be doing many excursions also. Just really wanting to know whats the best way of getting out of spending a lot of money in clubs if it's true that alcohol is expensive there.

What do you mean by clubs?

A lot of bars have reasonably priced alcohol (otherwise they would be empty) and last year often had 'special offers'. Watch out for the special offers though as once you work it out they aren't always that 'special'...

Food is very cheap (again look for offers or set meals).

There's lots of info on this here forum on food & alcohol prices, a quick search should seek them out.

Thanks, I meant clubs and bars on Bar street, some reviews i've seen are not so good regarding prices...people have said they charge up to 6 quid for pint and spirits even more for a single! Im only wondering as my friend is coming with us and I want to give him a heads up regarding prices.

There is no bar street in Icmeler but their are two night clubs but I can't tell you the drink prices as my night clubbing days are well over, In icmeler 90 % to anywhere is in walking distance, even the far back of the resort which may take you 30 minutes.

Bar street is in Marmaris near the Marina, again not sure of prices but have heard 12-15 Lira for an Efes in the past, maybe more now. Last year we had a drink at the Marina, 1 beer and 1 Gin was 20 Lira, same drink in Icmeler 14

Dolmus is 2.5 Lira but the last one is at 1am and will normally be full so will just drive past you, taxi's go up after midnight. expect to pay 40-60 lira after midnight back to the resort, or you can walk along the beach and prom in 90 minutes if you are not staggering too much, also don't do it on your own as some parts of the walk are isolated. you may be able to bargain a price with a driver but if there a lot of people waiting they won't bother.

Finally we budget £50 a day per person when SC and normally bring money back.

You might be better asking on the Marmaris forum instead. I know that the drinks are more expensive in the nightclubs that are in Icmeler but with Bar Street there are loads of bars offering 2 for 1.

Bar street in Marmaris is a different place from the family orientated resort of Icmeler that Justin or Dave know

If it was me drinking there then I would need a lot of money, if you then I think you may be ok, 12 lira -20 lira for a small beer

Shots and "proper" alcohol a lot more

Bar street starts 11ish and goes onto 5ish with peak times 1-3.30

If you drink alcohol expect to pay what people pay in cities in Turkey and not the prices that are deflated for the British visitors

There's only one nightclub in Icmeler now (Ambience).

If you intend drinking in your room/apartment then make sure you buy it at duty free (either end) or on the plane. It is very expensive in the shops.
