Marmaris Road Collapse

Postby jackonews » 27 Jan 2013 13:43

I have just spent time looking at the Marmaris TV reports about the road collapsing ,it looks very serious and quiet a major repair is going to be required.
Over the last two or three years I have been amazed at the work as you pass by on the transfer! Lack of health and safety on the heavy machinery etc but it all looked good last season, but I was concerned to see piles of boulders with barricaded off areas as you went up and down.
I can not understand the people been interviewed but from a Facebook report it seems it's to do with earthquakes and landslides"
SO can somebody gives us the heads up on how this is going to effect us this summer, because it dosnt look like a quick fix situation? Delays due to lane closures look inevitable.
A mission for John or Rami or Layne who is in Marmais with local knowledge !
Just out of interest is there another way in o Marmais if he road was totally closed or will that never happen?
Don't want to miss my Icmeler fix by loosing a minute ! Let alone hours stuck on the mountain

Let's hope it get resolved for the better, but I think this was about 10 days ago and by all accounts torrential rain now so could have been made worse

Don't worry Stuart you will get to the Rhodes apartments safely

There is no need for a mission to find out what is going on

Ok the road has collapsed and believe it or not Rami and I were up and down that road so many times last year we actually discussed it breaking up and even picked exactly where it went before it did

It will be fixed way before the season starts

Yes there are 2 other roads that I can think of that would get you into Marmaris and wouldnt take that much work on them to get them ready for lots of coaches

I think with discussions going on around various forums and facebook pages there has been a little scaremongering and berating of the Turkish people who work on the roads, in fact who work in all kinds of professions

I have seen stuff written about Turkish people and its culture berating it by people who have moved to Turkey from the UK to live.

Why move to a different culture and then have a go at it is beyond me, embrace it and sit back and watch the world go by

I've no doubts whatsoever that the road will be sorted well before the season starts, and glad I've not seen the other forums Jt's mentioned....
Totally agree...why move to a country and then slate they way they do things?!?!?!

No doubt they are the same folk who move abroad [for the sun], expect it to be like good old Blighty but forgot they prob slated Blighty before they went - then hotfoot it back when they need the NHS!!
And breathe haha

I've just looked on 'another' forum and there are photo's from someone called 'peli' - sounds familiar lol...

Yes, they do look quite bad but I'm sure they'll be sorted before the season starts (they'd have too much to loose by not fixing it).

If they can't anyone intertested in sharing a fast speedboat transfer from Sangeme, I estimate it's 25 miles by sea so with a boat doing 30 knots it will be less that an hour, plus the minibus from Dalaman to Sangeme.

Now that would be a fun Exhilarating transfer
