eeek Flight prices!!

Postby sueles810 » 23 Nov 2012 05:24

Hi,
have just been looking at flight prices for next year  we booke ours a while ago with TCook, looked this morning and the prices have gone up £365.00 over a thousand pounds  and thats not even peak season, ok its school holidays 23rdMay for 11 nights, how are people supposed to afford this? just glad we booked early, thought they were a bit pricey at £699.00*
sorry meant to say they have gone up £365.00 that makes the total over £1000.00 now
Regards

I know, I have been checking on a regular basis and seen them hike up over and over. Its making Turkey an expensive destination, obviously not once your there but its getting there that is the problem now. :(

It doesn't matter what resort in what country you are flying too, if you want to go at Whit week it has always been the most expensive break of the year and usually even if you book early

Accommodation prices do not go up really as they are set at the time of signing new contracts but it is all flight companies that do this as they know that this is the first "proper" break with sun for moast European destinations for most teachers and school going people

Sammi, possibly look at flying with Turkish airlines as they have improved their prices over the last few years and putting some other flight companies to shame. I have just booked my flight back to Turkey in January for £143 which includes my luggage and food, whereas a big tour operators flight would have cost me £269 without luggage and food.

Elaine is flying to Istanbul then waiting for an hour or so then onto Izmir then a bus

In the summer months there is no need for this as most days there is a good connection within an hour from Istanbul then onto Dalaman

Don't forget you get free booze or soft drinks and food on the international flight then food and soft drinks on the internal flight

Personally I would fly this way all the time as it's not like a flying shop as there is no duty free sale on board

The best thing to do in the winter months is incorporate a few days in Istanbul and then there is no wait really for a connection

Hi sueles810 as JT said my flight back has got a stop of 2 hours in Istanbul and then from Izmir I am catching a bus to Marmaris for just 35lira. However, last year I flew Manchester to Dalaman with Turkish airlines and just had a wait in Istanbul for 1.5hours. The flights are much more comfortable than flying with holiday tour companies and you have a choice of food and drinks included in the price and 20kg of luggage is part of the price. When stopping at Istanbul there is no need to worry about collecting luggage or checking in for the second flight, your luggage is automatically loaded onto the second plane for you and when you check in for your first flight you will be checked in at the same time for your second flight and you will be given your boarding pass. Thus on arrival at Istanbul you will be informed as to where to head for the second flight and you just go with your hand luggage to the next departure gate :D
If I can do it anybody can do it

Couldn't agree more Laney. We've done the flights via Istanbul/Izmir and bus to Marmaris and it couldn't be easier. We're doing it again next year. Travelling in Turkey is a dawdle, whether it's by plane, or bus, and so much cheaper. We've always found staff at airports and otogars very helpful. If you stand still for a few minutes someone will come and ask if you're ok, and point you in the right direction.

We got on a bus one day and the guy who comes round with the drinks and snacks remembered us from a trip we did 2 years before! We also keep in touch with one of the girls who had to find us accommodation when our flight home was cancelled due to snow. We saw her again at the airport on our way out to Kayseri 6 months later and she remembered us and got us straight through check in and told her friends on the plane to look after us. We were treated like royalty. She no longer works at the airport, but we're meeting up with her in Istanbul in a couple of weeks.

We're planning on a whistle stop tour of the area between Istanbul and Icmeler next year, flying into Istanbul then staying a night or two in various places before catching a bus to the next place, and ending up in Icmeler, then a flight from Dalaman to Istanbul connecting with a flight home with just an hours lay over. Piece of cake!
