Hi just thought I would give you an update on our holiday to
Icmeler in August, it wasn't booked through
ICR so I hope its ok to write on here.
We stayed at the Babadan Apts, our 2nd time here and as usual everything was great. At the start of our 2nd week I started to feel unwell, horrendous back pain. Eventually we got the Babadan to call for a doctor who came within 15 mins and took us to a clinic, Knidos Medical Centre. Here I was immediatly put on a drip, apparantly thats the norm in Turkey before they even know what is wrong with you. Anyway, after about an hour they decided to give me an ultrasound scan which revealed I had gall stones. The communication was quite difficult and everytime I asked a question they didnt really understand me and kept leaving me for what seemed ages each time. Eventually they said to my husband that I was being kept in overnight. The next day they told me I was unable to fly home until I had the stones removed. My husband and I discussed this and ovbiously it was the only option otherwise as I say, I couldnt fly home. A short while later the Thomson hospital rep, Julia arrived to see me. We got talking and I happened to say to her that I'd read lots about Dr Murat etc and she said yes he's very good, I asked if I could go to where he was. She made a phone call to my insurance co, Mondial, who confirmed I could be transferred to the main hospital, the Ozel Marmaris. At this point the Knidos were still in possession of my passport, and then of course, they weren't happy that I wanted to be moved. They insisted that we pay upfront for any charges incurred so far BEFORE I could have my passport back. We did, I just wanted to get out of this clinic. Then they refused to give us a copy of the medical report and a copy of the invoice. Eventually we got to the Ozel
Marmaris and were met by Lena the translator who was amazing, she got me seen asap by Dr Unsal, and he confirmed the same only that I had a stone lodged in my intestine too. This was the Thursday and we were due to fly home on Saturday (well I wasnt going anywhere) !!!

Anyway I obviously had to stay in hospital again and my op was scheduled for the Friday. It did go ahead on Friday, expect when I woke from op, he had decided to remove my gall bladder aswell !! The rep doesnt really know why the Babadan sent me to this clinic in the 1st place. When I was discharged from the hospital obviosuly I couldnt go back to the Babadan so was put in a
hotel in Marmaris near the hospital should I have to go back for anything quickly. My husband and 2 children went home on our scheduled flight on Sat, it was heartbreaking for me and my family, I felt very alone in a foreign country after having surgery. My husband flew back out to me on the Wednesday and we got a flight back to Birmingham early hours of Friday morning.
I can't praise this Thomson hospital rep enough she was absolutely amazing, she even took me to my out-patient apt on the Wednesday on her day off, at no point did I have make any phones calls, she did it for me, and as for the insurance company, outstanding.
It has been confirmed today from the insurance company that the bill we had to pay at the Knidos has been credited back into our bank account.
But the bottom line, they should have gone through the correct channels of claiming the money from the insurance company.
Should I encounter anything like this again, I certainly wont be heading to the Knido Medical Centre.
