Webcam looks quiet - Is it quiet anybody thats just returned

Postby MARKCAV » 14 Sep 2012 14:51

Just been looking at the webcam. Looks to be very quiet and its gonna be feeding time soon. I thought it may have been a little busier. Maybe in an hour or so it will be a little busier. How has anybody that has just returned found it?

Here at the moment and it does seem quiet, lots of tables empty in the restaurants apart from Majestic and Venice

We came back 2.15am Tuesday and have found Icmeler very quiet this September. There were lots of people on the beach most of the time but in the evenings, the restaurants were very quiet; once again the AI is killing the lovely restaurants. Of course, the canal is still not much cop even with the few stalls and some of those are either closed or have notices up to say they are closing. I don't agree with the new beach bed systen either as it is being abused by the AI's. They occupy a bed and then head off for lunch, come back and then go back to their AI hotel without even buying a drink. How do they think the beach boys can survive? AI's should pay to occupy the beach beds and not slope off for their lunch etc. :x

I was looking at the web cam last night and seems the end of town where the square is is still buzzing. Which is good as this is like the main hub of the town, if the Old Village is quiet then that's nice for us but not good for the restaurants I suppose though it means we can definitely get a table!!

We returned home 30th August after a great 2 weeks and found that everywhere was quieter than what it has been in the past few years. It seems to be getting quieter every year. Shops and restraunts all struggling. Afraid it's a sign of the economic climate we are in just now and there is no doubt the AI is having an effect too.

I dont believe the AI is the main cause for the resort being quieter than normal this year.
The fact that the flights and packages this year have been quite a bit more expensive may have put some people off from having a holiday.
My daughter decided not to have a holiday this year as they managed to get tickets for a couple of events at the Olympic which for a family of 5 cost nearly as much as a holiday.
I am sure the thousands of other people who decided to go to the Olympics would have found it hard to have a holiday too.
Its not just Icmeler that is quieter, other resorts in other countries have been reported as quiet.
Hopefully next year things will be back to normal.

I think generally speaking, it is the cost of a holiday as a whole that people are finding it very hard to get together over the last couple of years. Not wishing to rub it in but I am lucky enough to be able to have 3 visits to Icmeler this year but I have had to save hard for putting my spending money away for this last one (Saturday).
Though, it is just me I have to care about. I work 2 jobs, one of which is just a bar job but keeps me going for my holidays.
I managed to go to the Olympics too, so I am very lucky and I know I am. How I feel about Icmeler is that if I want to go 2/3 times a year, I will save and save so that I can. I do feel sorry for people who cannot afford to go anywhere for a holiday, especially a place they love like Icmeler. I class the place as my second home so I just cannot, not go!

Came back from Icmeler on 17th September, and have to say the resort did seem much quieter than previous years. I think its just the way things are at the moment- everyone is so stretched financially. Many people I work with have not been able to afford a holiday this year. I save as much as I can all year so that I can visit Icmeler, no going out at the weekends, and have even taken to staying in New Years Eve for the past couple of years. The £100.00 we would probably have spent goes into the holiday fund. I too consider myself very lucky to have been able to visit Icmeler again this year - only hope I can do the same next year.
