Visa

Postby janeypoos » 23 Aug 2012 12:08

Just back from Turkey and thought I'd share my experience with Istanbul Passport Control regarding the 90/180 visa.
I had a visa (bought in March) and had only used it once before for a stay of 16 days so according to the new rules it should still have been in date but when I presented my passport I was told that the 90 days had expired (true) and that I needed to get a new visa.
When I said it should be valid for 90 days within 180 days they said I was wrong but it was ok to just get another visa even though my 180 days weren't up.
So basically exactly the same as it was before February. Confused?? :?

The visa man in Dalaman has been doing this but you don't get a new ticket but you get stamped and when you leave you will be hit with a big fine, that is if they let you in

ok i am going to be in the same predicament and would appreciate all advice:
holiday june 15- july 1st bought the visa, going on holiday to Rhodes sept 22-29 and fancy doing the day trip to Icmeler via the ferry from Rhodes to Marmaris , do i have to pay, or should i just pay even if i dont have to , to save the hassle?
Totally confused with the visa regulations but i do not want to get banned from Turkey.

I'm leaving tomorrow from my second trip on this visa, let's see what happens, will be returning in 2 weeks for the 3rd trip so putting it to the full test! Almost printed off the "new rules" but didn't in the end, hope I don't regret that at dalaman tomorrow.

Do you just go straight to passport control if you already have a valid 180 day visa?

right just found this .....Effective from 01.02.2012, visa runs will not be allowed to get a new stamp/visa every 90 days. Duration of stay will be limited to 90 days during the past 180 days.

egm.gov.tr/detay.aspx?id=55&tur=duyuru
way i'm reading this is they have just altered it so you just can't go in and out not that visa lasts 180 days...what do you think

Pursuant to Turkish government regulations instituted on January 12, 2012, "90-day tourist visa" means that you can visit Turkey for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This means that, after staying 90 days, you cannot simply cross the border into another country, stay outside of Turkey for a day or two, then re-enter Turkey on a new 90-day tourist visa. Instead, you must apply in advance at a Turkish consulate for a residence visa and, when you arrive in Turkey, for a residence permit (İkamet Tezkeresi).

so what do you think

Back in Blighty, 2nd time through on same visa, purchased 92 days ago. Not an eyebrow was raised, nor a smile cracked - same as always really. Returning on 9th September to test out visit number 3, can't see there being a problem. I've taken screenshots of the FCO website and got them on my phone should they wish to challenge but I'm sure it'll be fine :)

Thanks for the last 2 posts, which re-assures me that it is OK to go back within the 180 days and not pay £10 again as I was thoroughly confused. It is good to know that it has been tried and tested by other forum members.

Just a quick update.

When I arrived at Istanbul I was told that my visa was out of date.
I tried to explain that yes, 90+ days had passed but I was still well within the 180 days and I had only used 16 days out of my allotted 90.
They were having none of it, insisting that it is 90 consecutive days from day 1.
I was able to buy another visa (luckily I'd had the forethought to make sure I had a £10 note, just in case) with no problem.
To me this is exactly the same as pre February isn't it? :?:
Now I have (according to the new rules) 2 valid visa's in my passport with differing expiry dates. :?
