6 MONTH VISA

I'm guessing that his has probably been asked before, but I can't find it anywhere. So apologies to anyone that thinks ....."NOT AGAIN"!
Is it possible to extend the normal 3 month visa by applying for a separate 6 month visa.? That would make the overall stay 9 months.If it is can anyone tell me the following please..................
How to apply for it.
How much does it cost.?
Are any particular documen!ts needed.?
Is there a certain time limit, within the 3 month visa, to apply for it.?
Is there anything else I need to be aware of.?

I happened upon this info by accident a few days ago, pretty sure it was on either the British Consulate or FCO website, from a google search

A 6 month extension is mentioned somewhere but it has not actually been brought in, you cannot get one at all as far as I am aware (I have been looking in to visa's this lst week or so).
It is still a case of the 90/180 or apply for a Residence Permit.
This was confirmed to my husband by Mersin Foreigners Police Dept on Monday.
