Hi there,
We took travellers cheques last year and they are very easy to get changed.
Most supermarkets and smaller ones as well as some bars will change them and commission free. Take your passport with you for the first time, but after that they will give you a peace of paper or business card with your passport details on, and you can then go back anytime without your passport, just take the paper/card.
Much easier and cheaper than exchange shops and a better rate.

As Chris say's above, No problems at all, also insured and replaced if stolen, make sure they are Sterling and check which supplier is commission free on purchase....My own bank is, but yours may charge 1%, it's still cheaper than withdrawing from an Atm..

sorry to be a thicko, but my simple mind needs more info

If I go to my bank here in scotland and order stirling travellers cheques, when I get to Icmeler, I can go to the
ICR online office (same place to ge my discount card) and cash them into Liras?
I too feel uncomfortable travelling with a wad of cash.
also, say if I brought back a heap of the un spent travellers cheques can I convert them back into my money again when back in scotland?

Hi Lee,
It is Supermarket's or bars that you change your Travellers cheques NOT the
Icr office, but no doubt they would point you in the right direction........any left over cheques can be paid back into your account No charge. Do Not use exchange offices as they charge commision, bars and supermarkets do not.....

I was wondering if the passport card in an ATM in icmler is any good or just take traveller cheques
I can get them from my bank with no commison and when I come back with any unused one I just put them in to my bank account and they don't charge for that
thanks dustyxx

Hi Dusty,
I carry my debit card for emergencies and Know that there will be a withdrawal charge, I don't know about passport cards, check with the supplier as you are not in the E.U. so there may be a charge to withdraw.
