duty free prices

Postby geordiespurs » 02 May 2012 13:04

im just wondering if anyone who has been through newcastle airport recently knows the prices of the duty free, inparticular barcardi and malibu

The other half works for asda and gets a 10% discount and we ahve found it is sometimes cheaper to buy from asda rather than duty free

World Duty Free seem to run the majority of the different shops at different airports - they have a website with their offers on and you can subcribe to get new ones by email. They are also on facebook if you are, where they post offers. I always have a look before we go and look at the inflight prices too to see if we're better off buying before we go, at the airport or on the plane!

More efes tokens free if you can get a bargain!

Is that this year? I know it was that price last year but on checking on http://www.worlddutyfree.com/duty-free-spirits.html Smirnoff is £13.99 a litre.

Hi Dragon, you're right that the WDF site is advertising Smirnoff at £13.99/1l but I flew to Istanbul from Stansted a few weeks back and they were still offering the 2-for-£18 on Smirnoff.
I treated myself as it was such a bargain, well, it would have been rude not to, lol! :-D

Here's the link to Shopbiza; http://www.shopbiza.com/free-five-pound-voucher

It will open on the page to apply for a £5 off voucher :-)

The site looks exactly the same as World Duty Free and the Smirnoff is the same price (£13.99) so I'd say you'll probably find the 2-for-£18 off when you go to the shop.

Bacardi and Malibu are also advertised at £13.99/1L so hopefully they are on offer at the airport too. :-)

Depends where you are flying to. To get the real benefit you must be flying outside of the EU (otherwise they cannot sell at duty free prices). Also you can check on http://www.dutyfreeonarrival.com/en/home/ to see if there are arrival duty free shops where you are going.

It's difficult to get prices now with the law change in advertising - when you say tobacco do you mean Amber Leaf/Golden Virginia, that type of tobacco, or cigarettes? I think it was about £58 for 10 pouches at LBA in March which is similar to what we paid last year in Manchester - I say think cause we could only look as we were going to Barcelona so the price didn't stick that well in my head! Who are you flying with? You can usually find their inflight magazine online -
If you're planning to bring back it's worth waiting for the return, Dalaman has always been a bit cheaper for tobacco.

If you are flying to Dalaman in Turkey there are duty free on arrival shops as well as departure so it would be better buying there if it is a popular international brand you are looking for. Will be much cheaper there as well.

Sincere apologies JT, didn't mean to breach the rules, didn't consider a list of prices on a flight would be a breach, was just trying to be helpful - have slapped own wrist
