Sunbed Sir

Postby redrhino12 » 27 Nov 2006 18:07

It was the first morning of our August fortnight in Icmeler.
After a light breakfast in our apartment of coffee, toast and cereals,we packed the bags ready for our "First Day At The Beach".

Now the bags we take to the beach are Huge, having to hold 6 towels,
2 each, various grades of sun oil ranging from 2 for me to total block for Mrs Genes nose, snorkel and mask for Andre, lilo for the Rhino to play in the sea with and the obligatory reading books for Ann.
We also take two x two litre bottles of water that I have frozen in the fridge overnight, and these will keep iced all day if kept out of the sun.

Last visit to the toilet then we are on our way yours truly laiden up like an human pack horse.

We have decided to spend our first day on the stretch of beach in front of the Kontes Hotel,so having walked past the Prince Apartments on our right, sauntered passed the Efendi Hotel also on the right with the Etoil Hotel on the left, we arrived on the Promenade.

A voice shouts "Sunbed Sir", and an arm with open palm is thrust in my direction which I grasp and shake vigoriously.

"How much for the beds" I enquire.
"A £1 sir" is the reply.
"Can I have one near the waters edge " I ask.
"I have saved these just for you" he says as he escorts us to three beds and a brolly right on the waters edge.

How do they do that?
How did he know I that I was coming on that day?

He wiped the beds for us, gave us one of those cute little pots to put our rubbish in and told us if we needed anything to give him a call and that he was there to make our holiday a memorable one.

We exchanged names and I offered to pay for the beds.

"You pay later " he says.

Another friendship has been forged.

Once again Gene you have excelled yourself. Sure we can all relate to your story. Do you think there could be a grapevine over there and they actually know what date you're gonna arrive? Certainly seems like it, we've had experience of that too.

Wish I had your way with words Gene, there's a few stories I could tell. And its stories like this that get us through the long winter months before we take off to Icmeler once again

Thanks for the kind words.

Dotty, Quote, Wish I had your way with words Gene,

Just use your own words Dotty,we would all like to hear of yours and other peoples experiences, and stories.
If you can give us all a story outline I am sure by using our own imaginations we can all be transported back to Icmeler and relive lots of thrills and adventures.

Red Wine,
The days we spent on the beach with that hot sun burning down, all three of us fighting for that small ring of shade created by our brolly.
Decideing to go for a swim and having to scurry over the hot sand so as not to burn the souls of our feet.
Running into the waves, and even a grown man squealing out, as the cold water sends shocks waves through my body, until I Dive headfirst into the waves and then every thing is ok.
After laying in the sun for a while when you get that dry throat and are just dying for that drink of ice cold water,I reach out for my plastic bag that I have left hanging from under the brolly and take out my frozen water that has just thawed enough for me to take several gulps before handing it over to the wife. (I know its manners to let the lady drink first but Hey I was realy thirsty).

One of my favourite times is 12 oclock or as some people say noon.
This is the time to put on the shorts and vest and head to the nearest bar to partake of a few pints of Efes and a salad cob, returning at 2 pm to resume that battle with the suns rays to aquire that tan.

Sorry for rambling, just using that imagination I was telling you about.

I have just been transported back to Icmeler and then looked out of the window and realised I was back at work with the sky getting darker and greyer by the minute, no doubt getting ready to pour as soon as I leave work!

Thanks for the stories that take us all back and can't wait to get back next year!
