Bit of advice please!

Postby TomG » 18 Jan 2012 22:33

Hi all,

Booked a week in the Maritim Grand Azur just outside of Marmaris for the last week in April. I visited Icmeler in Sept' 10 and I absolutely loved it.

However, I stayed at the Julian Forest Apt's which had a serious problem with wasps due to its location. Therefore I decided to book a hotel closer to beach. Does anyone know whether the Dolmus stops outside the Grand Azur or close by? I would much rather go to Icmeler than Marmaris!

After booking, I couldn't help but notice that a few reviews were saying the weather is really hit n' miss in April? I am there for the last week in April, would anyone have any information regarding temperatures and rain?

Finally, is the canal area 'alive' in April/May time? I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, and I would be gutted if we missed out!

Many thanks

We stayed at the Mola in September 10, the wasps were shocking, but that was because of the time of year and was an awful time for wasps, and not just the location. You had to pick your way through them by the pool! We've not experienced anything like that again though so I think that month was particularly bad.

I'm pretty sure the dolmus stops either right outside or not too far away, I'm trying to picture exactly where it is - I'm thinking it's close to the gold center and mcdonalds on the other side of the road? If so, then you're very close to dolmus stops :)

I've done the first week in May in the past but not as early as April. The weather was very warm, but sometimes a bit cloudy with an odd rain shower (didn't last very long though). Evenings were cardigan cool but not cold. As for the canal area, who can say this year, hopefully it'll be lively through the whole season, but I have been there in May when places were still opening. I know the Broadway Bar on the corner of the canal is planning to do a refurb during April with a view to being open by the end, but don't know about the others :)

Hi Tom G I've not been that early in th season but you refer to the canal area being lively if you mean the stalls down the canal sorry to say they are no longer there which makes a big diference to tha canal area it seems rather bleek down there we used to love a stoll on an everning but even in the day time it seems bleek as some one said on this site a year ago it feels like muggers ally. There is still the resturants down there but it's not the same with out the stalls. :( :( :(

From Icmeler the bus stops right outside the Azur

To go to Icmeler just cross the road and hold your hand out (orange bus)

Easter is early April I think so the main bars will be open for it and wont close so they will be open on the canal then

Weather is for the gods to decide as no one can predict but temperatures will be up from what they are now

Why did the stalls at the canal shut down? Are they gone permanently?! They were the best shops in Icmeler in my opinion!

Cheers, just googled about Icmeler canal after the reply earlier, and I'm absolutely shocked about how all the stalls have gone. That is what made Icmeler!

This is the state of it after the stalls had been removed, such an eyesore
