Going it alone

29 Sep 2011 23:18

Hi folks,I'm thinking of going back to Icmeler for a week mid October, but would be travelling alone for the first time. I'm a young thinking fifty year old female, still trying to decide whether to go so I would welcome any advice or comments, thanks

Get yourself booked up now and go and enjoy. If you think about it too long you will convince yourself that it may not be the right thing to do. I think you would have a great time in Icmeler and i am jealous that you have already been once this year and maybe going back again.

Definitely go fo it!

As you'll already know everyone is so friendly in Icmeler, you'll easily get to know people so you won't feel totally alone.

To be honest I'd love a week away on my own. Lovely surroundings, great people, a good book and I'd be well away! :-)

Hi
Well I am going back to Icmeler on Monday. It will be my fourth time there in eighteen months, but the first time I have gone alone.I am in my early forties. I was rather nervous about going alone, but I have taken the plunge after getting great advise from other forum members. I have even organised a forum meet up for my first night in Icmeler! So my holiday will start with a good night out!
In fact I am rather excited to be going back and everyone in Icmeler is so friendly. So be brave and go for it! You will have a fabulous time. Just think, a lovely holiday chilling out on the beach. Nice little strolls around the village and just yourself to please! It will be pure bliss! :D
Life is too damn short to sit at home worrying! Book yourself a flight and take the plunge!
I will let you know how my holiday goes when I get back home on the 10th.

Tracey :)

You will be fine. I have been on my own several times and to be honest there are days there when I preffered it as you have a whole apartment/hotel room to yourself and you don't have to consider what your travelling companions want to do- you can do and go where you want when you want. Don't worry at all about being a lone female as I have been given much more respect as a lone female. I only get propositioned (so to speak!) when I am with other females. Don't think about the negatives as there are many more positives. The one thing I didn't fancy doing alone was going into a bar/restaurant but after two or three times it no longer bothered me at all. BTW- I got invited to go along to the disco etc a few times by other groups of holiday makers and I am not young! I have seen a few lone females and they look to be having a good time, in fact a friend who I keep in touch with I met on holiday and we were both alone.

I went alone for the first time in May last year and I just wish I had gone more into June or July because my only gripe was the weather. It rained a bit and I could not sleep by the pool very much. Though having the whole apartment to myself was lovely, being able to do exactly what I wanted. I agree that going for dinner on my own was a worry but after the first night, I was fine. I have booked to go next year twice by myself and I cannot wait, booked for July and September so the weather will be good and also to stay somewhere that I know well. :)

I did get a bit of attention but after a while they gave up. I'm 37 btw so not that young!

Hi palescot - go for it! I went to Icmeler on my own this year in June and had a great time.

People are friendly, and until I was on my own, I hadn't realised just how many other people holiday alone.

I always had a magazine or a book with me when I went out for dinner in the evening, but it was actually nice just to sit and watch the world go by. Out of all the restaurants, tandoori sizzler was great to go into on my own - they gave me a choice of tables so I could choose where I wanted to sit and unlike other places, I wasn't made to feel like I had to hurry up and finish to free up the table. Oh and the food was great too!

I also did a couple of ICR trips - enjoyed the village tour, lunch in a lovely place with waterfalls and the chance to visit a mosque in the afternoon. The turkish bath was great too.

Have a lovely time!

I have gone on holiday to all sorts of places on my own and really enjoyed the holiday. In Icmeler you will meet up with loads of people, and I'm sure that there will be other people from the forum there at the same time that you might bump into. I have found that when you go off on your own you are able to do what YOU want to do when YOU want to and not because your mates want to do something,it is much more relaxing. What are you waiting for, get it booked and enjoy it!

So, palescot, have you taken the plunge and booked yet?? :)

Hi folks, yes I have booked at last, had to delay because my daughter took ill with a nasty stomach bug. So just the other day I booked for a week at the Ekinci palace flying from Newcastle on the 24th Oct. Hardly any flights at this time of year from up here in Scotland so will be a long journey but I'm sure it will be worth it!! Will let you all know how I get on. Thanks for all the help and advise.

We've flown from Newcastle before, palescot, for exactly the same reasons. It's not too bad a journey - the worst part is the return leg, when all you want to do is get home once you've landed!
