litter

Postby skilly » 18 Sep 2011 18:34

Just got back yesterday morning. I will post a full review soon.
One thing I did notice was how much litter. cans, bottles etc were strewn about the place.
When we started to go to Icmeler many years ago I could honestly say to people how lovely and clean it was, not now :(
We sat on a wall the other day as it was so hot, to drink some water and you should have seen the amount of rubbish behind the wall.
Also we stayed at Effendi hotel ( which by the way was a great place to stay) and used to go down a side street to go to Buffalo bar, there were smashed bottles of beer and cans littering the road. We never saw a road sweeper in Icmeler but saw one in Marmaris and a motorised road sweeper.
I realise that it is probably a few lazy holiday makers who are the culprits but I hope the Mayor takes notice and Icmeler reverts to the lovely tidy place it used to be.
It will not stop me returning as I am already looking for next year but I was quite disapponited with this issue. :(

We've only been going for about 4 years but have always been dismayed at the amount of litter there is, on pieces of wasteground mostly.

:(

We've been going for about 15 years and can well see the difference from then. There was even a black bin bag floating in the sea.
its so sad when a place you love seems to be changing for the worse. another thing was a lot of restaurants display signs saying ' British food', its getting like Spain. As i said before i will always return because we have met some lovely people there, both Turkish and British :)

I drive a road sweeper where i live, it is a seaside town, people often ask me if i ever get fed up of cleaning up after everyone. my reply is always.."its like working in an outside production line line" in all honesty there should be more fines for people dropping litter and make it public, When i was a child we all used to be proud of where we lived, these days the attitude is "who cares, nothing is going to happen to me when i drop my chip tray", ooops rant over, I'm off to Icmeler on 27th and have always told my friend how clean it is. gulp, looks like i'm going to be eating my own words.

Well that's surprised me.
When me and my partner were describing icmeler to friends we were saying how impressed we were with the cleanliness!! Dustbin lorrys out nearly every morning and the roads litter free.
Maybe they don't employ so many street cleaners now the season is getting near the end?!

The main streets & the beach road are not too bad but the side streets are not as clean as they used to be, obviously because Icmeler as a resort, has grown in size and the increase in numbers of people visiting, it just seems to me that the street cleaning could be upped to keep my favourite place in the world as pretty as it should be :)

Just come back from Tunisia and the rubbish there is unbelievable!Everywhere you look its accumulated.Olive groves full of rubbish. Sea shores full of rubbish. Definately better about it in Icmeler.Loads of bin lorries and smelly big rubbish bins to walk past.Never saw any in Tunisia. :)

In our view its most the wasteground Vikki, its like everyone who walks by with a bottle just tosses it there.

We returned from Icmeler on 23rd September and can honestly say every morning around 8am whilst having our breakfast, the road sweeper was around our hotel and where the sweeper could not reach because of parked cars a man with a broom swept there. I wish brooms were used in our town as they must be brand new when the operators retire!! I think the litter of bottles, cans etc must come from the tourists and not the locals as they think they are at home!

dont just blame the tourists, we were sat in Romeo and Juliets and watched a woman from the hairdressers across the road clean up in the shop and throw the rubbish into the street

hi folks we stayed at the kapmar most of September and i have to say
i felt sorry for anyone whose rooms looked out toward the back of the hotel. the old undergroung bazaar is a disgrace and this cannot be blamed on tourists, also the smell at times from the dry canal was appalling. Still Icmeler is a beautiful place and much better than many other resorts . :D
