Young and Old

27 Sep 2011 08:43

As most people know we always take our grandson to Turkey with us,he is 16 now and been to Icmeler about 18 times.
To show how the young and old can be compatable on holiday here is a brief description of one morning of our holiday.

After spending the evening in Friends Bar Andre,Ann and myselfe strolled over to Hob Nobs Bar were we stayed till 1-45am, we went off to bed and Andre went on to the nightclubs,Ambience and EastEnders with a group he met in the bar.

After an Efes induced sleep I awoke at 6am went into the kitchen area and noticed Andres bed hadnt been slept in, no problem I thought as he will have gone over to his mums house in Marmaris.
I took a quick shower while waiting for the kettle to boil to make myselfe a coffee.
I took the coffee onto the balcony along with half a dozen custard creams and wallowed in the cool breeze that wafted accross my face.
Coffee finished I entered the the kitchen area through the slideing doors just as Andre is entering the apartment.
With a smile on his face and a chicken kebab in his right hand he said to me, "Morning Grandad", with the same sort of confidence I replied, "Morning Andre"
He duly prepared for bed while I picked up my camera to do some early morning picture taking.
As I left the apartment I glanced at my watch, the time was 6-30am.

I realised then that the young and old like dfferent things, the young like to party all night and sleep till 3pm,while we older people like the early morning walks, the peace and tranquility that ony a 7am stroll along the promenade can bring.
But we can still share an apartment as long as we live and let live and respect others peoples rights to do what they want to do on holiday.

Oh by the way Ann stops in bed till 10am and says its my holiday as well and I do what I want

You are right redrhino12. We have 2 teenagers, the youngest is 16,too young to go clubbing alone, the eldest is 19,he does his own thing on a night after the evening meal with us and getting back not much before his dad, brother and me wake.We just leave him to it,he knows where to find us when he wakes and feels dehydrated and hungry  Next year will be the first time he wont be with us,he is going to Gubet with friends on a 18 to 30 clubbing holiday instead and it will feel so weired not having him with us.

Totally agree with Gene. We have just returned and had our George 16 and one of his pals from school with us this year. They also met up with some other friends from our village who were out in Icmeler at the same time as us.
Mandy and i had a great holiday, hardly ever saw George for two weeks. Lunch timeish/early afternoon George and Aiden would appear, get a bit of food, have a swim or head off into Icmeler to meet up with folk they had met the previous night. They would come out for a meal with us older folk sometimes or just please themselves. I had a couple of late nights sitting in the bars and having the craic and heading back to our apartments and having a bit more chat with folk stopping in the Prestij. I would tittle off to bed, sneak in trying not to wake mandy, and then find our George has still not come back!! I must say that i was not worried as we have been coming here for years and we had the same issues with my daughter who is now 20. Fiona would head out and meet folk and return at god knows what time ( maybe better that dad didnt know!!) and we have never had any problems. They would get to know the staff working in the bars, recognise folk from previous years, folk stopping in our appartments or even the staff from our appartments who would either talk, have a drink or even walk back to the appartments with them. This is ICMELER, and what i love about the place.

I loved reading those two posts and they really made me smile. I went on holiday to Icmeler with my parents for 2 weeks. Now I am not saying they are old and to be honest, I am not that young any more either but it does show that all ages can have a perfectly harmonious holiday together. Both my parents are pretty young at heart and I love them for that but they are not up for clubbing!
This would be a typical day/evening with my Mum & Dad. Mum & Dad would get up early and sit on the balcony, after a little while they would go down and put our towels on our regular sunbeds. I would look over the balcony from my room and see that he had gone down already, I would then get on my bikini and make my way down and we would all have breakfast together.

After filling our bellies with a lovely brekkie, we would head to the beds for a day of sunbathing. We would all either be reading, listening to our ipods or chatting. Taking it in turns to take a dip in the pool. About half 4, myself and Dad would exchange looks and make a gesture that it might possibly be 'beer o'clock'. We would sometimes leave Mum snoozing while we crept to the bar!! :)

Mum would join us a bit later after us having a bit of a head start. About 6.00pm we would head upstairs to get freshened up, dressed up and we would be back down in the bar to discuss where we wanted to head for dinner that evening. I would always go to dinner with them and sometimes head back to the apartments to drink with them afterwards. There were nights though when I would want to go out and have a bit of a boogie, these nights I left my parents to their thing and I would grab a friend to take me into Marmaris. Rolling in early hours but luckily having my own room it did not disturb anyone else. I would still be up the next morning to join them for breakfast though. :D

Hi folks, I was in Icmeler in May with my fourteen year old daughter,my 23yr old neighbour and a male friend of hers joined us for the second week. Was'nt sure how it would all work out but we had a wonderful time and Ross even gave me a dance on the balcony one morning at 5.00 a.m.! P.S forgot to say (quietly) that I am a woman of 50yrs!

The beauty about Icmeler is it doesnt matter how old you are. We have just returned from two weeks and had a brilliant time. We have had loads of nights out with young adults who have sat in our company all night and talked and laughed and carried on the whole night. I have children of my own who are older, and i would just like to think that my kids were as good as the ones we have seen in Icmeler this year. We have all been in the night clubs for the foam parties and late night swims in the pool and i am 51. As i keep saying Mandy says i should know better by now!!
