Hiya everyone,
I was just wondering about Dalaman Airport! Due to my parents wedding this summer... we decided to give Icmeler a miss although the wedding was fantastic by the way lol!

But apparently Dalaman Airport was getting 'done up' for this summer just gone... was just wondering what it's like now as i'll be going bk to Icmeler next summer with my friends ??? Any information is great thanks

Airport was a massive improvment, just arrived home yesterday early morning, and both the arrival and check-in homeward bound was absolutely fine no great delays either end and both flights arrived and departed on time.

It is a lot bigger and seems more organised, however beware when we were returning they were being really strict with your luggage allowance, and we were charged £6 per kilo over. And as far as we seen most people were charged too, we flew with mytravel but there were other flights who also appeared to be getting charged - so beware of that luggage weight. Normally you just get your hold luggage weighed but no they ask you to put it all on and then see how much you are over.

Apart from that we had a much better experience of Dalaman airport to the one we had 4 years ago.

Yes it is alot bigger than the old one and you're not crammed together with tonnes of flights. However it is hard to find a seat to sit on! I feel sorry for people who get delayed

Even in the long queues next to ours they were getting charged as there was someone else once you had checked in you paid the money to so it was not necessarily the check in staff who took your money. And we were also warned we'd be charged even when we were on our transfer to our accomodation, so looks like this could now be the norm. oh well still worth it for all you pay over there

That was the same with us if you were over on your baggage the check in staff would do what they needed to do and then somebody else would sort your charge out and take your money. Maybe that was the way it was the last time you were there though Bob and they have caught onto the fact that the check in staff simply do not have the time to sort it out.

Hi Everyone

Our experience of the new Dalaman was good! Apart from the fact
that we were stung also for our luggage being over the limit..... I've never known this before (maybe we have just been lucky in the past). Good job we left our beach towels, remains of suncreams etc. there otherwise it would have cost us more than the £10 we had to pay...... still what we saved on our leather coats made up for it!

We flew with onur air and quite a few people we spoke to said their baggage was way over the 20 but they werent charged.Maybe thats the answer..keep the dosh in the turkish economy.We thought onur air was fine.Air steward was a good laugh..couldve worked in one of the bars!Food was as good as any airline.Free soft drink.Better than fly be!

On the whole I thought the new Dalaman airport was a vast improvement on the old one.
On arrival getting your visa is much quicker than it was before!
They seem to have the flight number monitors facing the wrong way on the baggage relclaim carousels though, so it can take a bit of chasing around to find which one your luggage is coming up on. Luggage seemed to come up in fits and starts - teething problems maybe.

The shopping is much better with much more choice. In August is still resembled a giant aircraft hanger - but I'm sure once they've finished the interior decoration it'll be lovely.

Shame the prices are the same though - try to avoid buying drinks if you can!

i flew home from dalaman aiport on sat 14th october, after yet another fantastic holiday in icmeler.

dalaman aiport is juch better the crowds as you get off your bus to get you suitcase is much better as the platform is more than twice its size.

the queing to get inot the aiport didnt seem half as bad.

all suitcases and hand lugguage still have to go through the x ray machine s as you get in.

i was pulled aside when my 6 year old daughters suitcase put through as they saw something that they werent sure what it was.

they asked me to identify this black mass on the screen, i just didnt have a clue what it was, so i was asked to open my suit case there in front of everyone. but it turned out it was the belly dancing outfits i bought for my daughters dance school.

at checking they now have new equipment, which means they now have the facilities to actually weigh your suitcase. luckily for my family we got it to the qeue where the scales had broken down lol.
i was so pleased as i'm positive both my suitcases were over weight,lol

for the unlucky people in the second qeue they were being charged £6 for evry kilo they were over. which the check in girl was taking from them. i suppose they have to to make their money back now for the new building somehow. lol

i found the duty free section alot easier they also had little machines which you could check the price and wuold also change it into euros or english priceing for you.

priceing is very exspensive as i found myself paying £3.50 for two small bottles of water. ouch

we didnt seem to hang around to long for our flight in fact we left about half an hour early.

No prbs with check in or arrivals what was a bit disappointing was there is only one cigs and booze duty fre so the haggling bit is missing, I used to enjoy all that comparing and haggling of prices. Also some of the build quality of a brand new building elft a lt to be desired, the slated wooden seats...dead uncomfy the walk way down to the plane seemed to have £1.99 sq metre domestic kitchen lino which was ripped and bubbled. Fixtures on the sinks in the toilets were all knackered and lots of the light fittings were badly fitted or hanging off,and I'm not a builder!!!! Looks a bit like a modern art gallery, I liked the old one better

Aww, thanks for all your replies everyone I cant wait to go bk next summer.... I just hope i dont get lost Haha! Even though that is probably impossible now!
