Turgutreis

Postby jois27 » 19 Apr 2011 21:58

Hi, this is my first post. Been coming to Icmeler for the last three years and going again in May for two weeks but for a change have booked a week in September to Turgutreis. Having never been there before was wondering if any members had, and their opinion on the place ? Any views welcome

I have been to Turgutries, it is nice- not as nice as Icmeler but would be my next choice. Have been to other places in Turkey and it would be my second choice, went to Bodrum one year and didnt like it so you have made a good choice if you want a change. Stayed just a dolmus ride away from the centre which we went to every night. It hasnt got quite the same magic as Icmeler and there was only a couple of bars that had entertainment and they are all based in the centre near the bazaar. However the market was better than Icmelers as was the beach. Funnily enough there were some stall holders that are doing the Icmeler and Marmaris markets......they asked me if I had got lost or had I booked the wrong place by mistake!
You will enjoy your holiday there.
BTW.....welcome to the forum, hope to read your review.

We went two years ago and had a lovely holiday, if you enjoy shopping for bric-a-brac you will love it around the market area.

We also found some genuine Turkish eating places, they will welcome you with open arms, and at extremely good prices e.g.9TL for the chicken shish kebab. This as I say was two years ago so the prices will have increased a little.

As the resort faces east you also get the sun setting over the sea which results in some fantastic sunsets as you have a pre dinner drink.

All in all a good choice but like us I bet you will return to Icmeler sooner rather than later.

Have been twice and agree the sunsets over the sea were fabulous, some lovely places to eat especially one just outside the town and you have your meal in tents. Food was amazing.
Would go again if icmeler wasn't so good.

I know it will upset the Icmeler lovers but I have to admit Turgutreis is my favourite place. "Can" restuarant is worth a visit - lovely lamb shanks - but I've not had a bad meal in any restuarant. I don't think you'll be disappointed with your booking.

We stayed there for a week in May 3 years ago. It was nice, and as kirkwood says, the sunsets are magnificent. The town wasnt fully open, although there was a selection of bars open in a very small 'Bar Street' . We stayed at the Opal Hotel, about 15 minutes walk (at Turkish pace) from the town. Beautiful hotel, right on the sea front run by 2 sisters and their neice... we were called by our first names the day after we checked in, and it was very friendly.

I'd go back at some point, although I didnt feel there was that much to do there. Beach was disappointing, as not much of it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for updates on Turgutreis. Going to Icmeler first in three weeks time staying at Efendi again then Turgutreis end of September to Armonia holiday village, not my original choice but first hotel hotel booked there received very bad reports so thought it best to change. Really looking forward to both places, but can't give up Icmeler because its like a magnet which keeps drawing me back!
