Keeping the kids happy

15 Jul 2011 20:08

rather than mix this with another post on here I thought it would be better to have its own topic.
Ive copy/paste from 250lira a day topic

This is for the kids who visit Icmeler every year.

. the best place is the park just of the Marmaris rd down from the Icmeler council office... bouncy castles, crazy golf, go-kart (kids only), basketball/football/tennis court, arcade games, painting and drawing if you want it and loads of kiddy type fun , drinks and crisps are on sale for the kids and Efes for us older type folks . ( not sure if they sell harder stuff) . The owners bend over backwards to make tourists welcome as it is mostly Turkish familys that visit. Its great watching your kids interact with local Turkish kids and having fun.

Its funny that this place never gets a mention when people ask about things to do for kids in the Icmeler area., as it is the only kiddy thing that Icmeler has( Marmaris is a dolmus ride away).

One thing that my kids will miss is having 20lira to spend on a night and doing their own thing for a little while. They buy lace type chains and evil eyes at the canal stalls. ( they wont be this year though ). :(

Sounds great. although i am not going this year I will be there next year and taking my 7 year old neice so will have to pay it a visit. Is it easy to find , we will be staying in the old village

it depends what area of the old village you are staying.
we tend to stay cafe rose area of the old village and the park is at the other end... 15min walk or 2 min in a taxi.
If you are staying at the other end of the old village ( Tansas area) then it is more or less on your doorstep.

Excellent. Thanks for this. Though not sure jumping on a bouncy castle in 45 degree heat is recommended but I shall be making a visit. is it near the pinewood apts by any chance?

Ask any local to point you in the direction of the council office or the football/basketball court on the main rd.
The owners have young kids ages with your neice so she will make new friends while you have a coffee (or stronger ) and chat with the owners.
It amazes me that very few tourists use this place,, be it lack of knowledge or they think its to far away from the centrum of Icmeler.
You also have Nazar Cafe ( hidden gem in Icmeler) just 2mins over the road.

jonny, i think it's only maybe a 5 or 10 min walk from Pinewood

come out of Pinewood and walk down to main Icmeler/Marmaris road
turn left and head towards Marmaris
stay on same side of road as Pinewood
walk past junior school and keep going until you see the main road on right that would take you through centre of Icmeler [on the road where Tansas is]
walk on another 200 yards or so and you'll see fencing on opp side of road to you - like the stuff they used to put up round school yards/tennis courts
that's where the play area is

hope this helps

We've been going to Icmeler since ours were little and they were more than happy with the pool, beach, sea and boat trips - not to mention the nights out with all the attention they got from waiters and the chance to dance until the small hours

We never once visited a play area - and they didn't ask to, nor did they get bored. So here's hoping that whether or not you find it, they'll have an amazing time - and you too

Very true fanny :)
We first used the park after a recomendation from a waiter.
After 10 days of entertainment in the bars we needed a change, and the park was perfect for the kids and us :) .
I think it was the first night in ten that me and hubby had a propper chat with each other without shouting over boom boom music.
Sometimes you just need the basics :)

Quite, rakigirl
Unfortunately for us though, our girls have always been party animals haha. We went with friends one year when our 3 were young [7 12 and 13] and their kids [9 and 11] were bored out of their minds with the shows and dancing. Our kids truly couldn't understand why they were demanding to go to the swings after the meal - ours were begging us to take them to another bar so they could dance until the small hours!!

That's what we love about Icmeler though, something for everyone eh?!

Fanny, our kids are just the same as yours!!! They dont need a lot to keep them happy at 9 and 6 and we have been coming to Icmeler for 5 years, they love the shows and practise their dancing in the winter (poor Mason has no rythm bless!) Icmeler has all they need and more xx

Aw bless jozzyd - we still have a great time now the kids are older, but there's something so very special about taking them when they are little that I wish I could turn the clock back! They felt great being able to stay up and party with the grown ups, and once people knew they liked to dance, that was it!!
Rhythm or not, it's just so great to see kids taking part and having a ball
