Stalls by the Canal

Postby robert123 » 29 Jun 2011 20:30

Can't seem to find a topic, but plenty of mention of them not been there this year, which will be a shame, many a nice stroll down there in the evening after dinner, so have they been moved on?

Just returned from Icmeler, the removal of the stalls along the canal is a crime.
Those responsible should be sacked.
There is no athmosphere at all.
Anyone visiting, please still take a stroll down there and visit the many excellent bars and resturants, they are struggling due to the lack of "passing trade".

I missed out on the shopping gene (thankfully!) but have to say that I find the canal area a little soul-less now. Hardly anyone walking up and down and atmospheres in restaurants seems a little tired (or certainly is on the nights we go round that area).

Maybe next year the mayor will be putting the stalls back in a new form? I certainly know that the restaurants are feeling the pinch because of the changes and are supposedly putting together a petition.

There are now bright neon lights in a half circle saying "Welcome to Icmeler Canal" on the bridge at the start of the canal (roadside) which have just been added and some brights lights along the length of the canal but you can't create an atmosphere if there's nothing there!

hi
totally agree with everyone about the stalls , they are such a miss, its not just the stalls as much as they are a big miss but the whole atmosphere has gone . loved to walk down there on a night and see everyone sitting chatting and having there turkish tea etc . just felt awful suppose the lights will make it a bit better but a return of the stalls is what most people want :(

Our friends at Kerem assure us that the stalls will be back next year. There are big renovations planned for this area. The stalls are being custom made in the Turkish style. I agree with other forum members that the canal arera was souless this season.
