Luggage allowance & Dalaman Airport

Postby Chris221273 » 17 Jun 2011 10:18

Hi all,
Just out of curiosity I wondered if those who take scales with them to weigh their cases made sure they were under by a certain amount or not.
Having read about the airports slightly dodgy scales/money making scheme I just wondered whether it's worth being a certain amount under, because if they try and diddle me and say I'm over I will argue the point of I'm not over!!!

Hi Chris I dont tend to bring anything back, and before i leave resort i leave all the bits and bobs of hair gel/spray/shampoo/sun lotion etc, and when i get to Dalaman, i put my case on an empty check in just to give me an idea of what the weight is, and wether or not i need to start shuffling things to my hand luggage. So i dont bother with scales and never paid anything yet........touch wood. :D

I do the same. I try and make sure to travel as light as I can. Don't normally bring anything back and do the same with shampoos and shower gels etc. I also normally find if I pack as little pairs of shoes too. :(

They are more strict at Dalaman and I've seen it so many times with people weighing and re-weighing their cases, then opening them up and having to either bin stuff or transfer it into their hand luggage. I would hate to have to do that in front of everyone so I do always weigh mine on my scales at home before I leave.

9 times out of 10 I am way under, for instance last time I had 20kg limit, I only actually had 13kg. :D
I think it is just a case of careful packing.

Well, I intend to travel light, and we have 20kg's each allowance, but it's the convincing my good lady that she doesn't need 14 pairs of shoes and 14 bikinis that maybe the problem
I bought a set of digital scales from eBay that I will be taking with me just incase.
I won't have much room in my hand luggage as mine will consist of my camera bag, which is pretty much the max size/weight your allowed to take on as hand luggage!!
I actually weighed a carrier bag that my girlfriend has, which has just the suncream and bikinis in and that's just short of 5kg's on it's own!!!
I think I may have my work cut out

Hi Chris,
I to take a camera bag but condense mine down to DSlr, 2 Lens, charger, flash gun, memory cards and
Small tripod. (The tripod packed in case). This bag then fits into a airline size bag with all the Electrics that a man needs  . Ipods, Hairdryer, Staighteners (can't do without those) and other odds n sods.

We take hand held scales which seem pretty good but still check them on empty scales as I think they are all set together. Think I read somewhere (maybe here) that if you are over, demand to see that days calibration certificate as they must be calibrated on a daily basis.

I bought some digital ones on eBay the other day, they seem pretty accurate, only a couple of grammes out.
I just want to get out there now......47 days and counting :-)
