Flight Cancelled

Postby Debs14 » 19 Mar 2011 00:04

Just received an e-mail from aegean telling us our flights from Leeds/Bradford on 7th august have been cancelled what they are offering is a lot more expensive so will have to spend a few days looking for new flights now.Has to be certain dates as my other half gets his holidays set by the RAF so we can't be flexible on dates :x

Debs I would get back to Aegean if I were you as I think you have mis understood them.

If they are cancelling flights they are either offering a refund or a FREE change onto another flight

I had this same problem last year. Booked flights in January for October and then in September they cancelled them. John you are correct they offer you a refund or an alternative flight but if the alternative flight costs more you have to pay the difference. It sucks. You are left with no choice. In my case all the available flights were way more expensive than what they were offering me (even though that was anothe £35 each). I looked into this in great depth but got no joy anywhere. But I learnt my lesson and will not book with them again. :(

Dianne when our flight for May was cancelled it was a straight swap to another flight or a full refund no mention of any extra payment. I dont see how they can get away with charging more as you have a contract for a flight and its been paid in full.

Hi Diane
I agree with John that you should check again with Aegean. Our return flight on Sunday 24th July has been cancelled and we were offered an alternative one on Saturday 23rd July. We had booked last July and the return flight on the Saturday was at a higher price than the return flight on the Sunday, so we booked Sunday because it was an extra day and at a lower price, so we thought-great!

They sent us an email last December informing us that we could either accept the alternative flight offered or have a refund. We accepted the alternative flight and on our new invoice the price had gone up by £118 (for both ways), how much more it was for just the return flight I don't know. We weren't asked to pay anything extra.

So either there is a misunderstanding or Aegean have changed their policy since December.

Good Luck :)

I wasn't ask for any more money either when our flights were cancelled .The offer was cancel with full refund or take the flight offered 2 days later.Accepted the flight but luckily the flight at the end of our holiday was also moved 2 days later so no real problems for us as accomodation was also changed.

I argued with them over this stating it was their fault the outbound flight was cancelled so I shouldn't have to pay but they wouldn't budge. In the end I payed up as even if I had accepted a refund other operators flights were more expensive. I did contact ATOL and ABTA but got no joy from either. Therefore, I will not be booking with these again. They seem to do the same thing every year - get people to book early and then cancel half the flights. Its ok if you can be flexible but my hubby gets stated holidays that are from Saturday to Saturday so we don't have any leeway. Its just not worth the hassel. Di. Hope you get yours sorted Debs.
