Sights and Sounds

29 Aug 2006 15:28

Music may go off at midnight in Icmeler, but music of a differant kind starts, as soon as the sun begins to rise.

Up in the Old Village cockerels crow at the start of this new day,
Strutting around their harem of cackling hens,I suppose maybe disscusing with each other the routine of the coming day as their broods of chickens scratch away at the baked earth.

Sheep and goats call to each other, while the pidgeons sit on the rooftops of the small village houses cooing and canoodling to each other
and in the background is the constant rhythmic beat of the crickets.

A small brush fire is burning at one of the farms while this old lady clears the grass and small bushes off her land the smoke gently spiralling into the warm air stinging the nostrils as I walk past.

The early morning walk over I head back towards the town and as I get near to the centre I am brought back to reallity by the beating from one of the bars selling early morning breakfasts, the song,
Deeper in The Night

I keep giving myselfe reasons to stay in the Old Village
The tranquill atmosphere in the morning.
The Dark skies at night when the stars stand out like little jewels.

Why cant we live two lives.
Then again maybe I do.

staying in old village

Why deny yourself? If you always stay in the centre then give the village a go. It really is all those things you mention in your post. Best of all it's not far at all from the centre and there's bars, restaurants on the walk down.

It does seem however that you may be getting the best of both worlds - you clearly have experience and perhaps the late night sights and sounds that you know of are enough. I'd still be tempted by both - but there are some lovely apartments in old village..... let us all know where you go next.

As June says please try the village at least once on your travels to Icmeler.

Ok there is that walk back in the evenings after the bars close in the town but most if not all bars in the town will give a free ride home and will also pick you up from the village to eat or drink in their bar.

My wife will be in Icmeler next week with friends of ours and we will be staying in the village out of choice in the Rhodes apartments and levente will be picking us up nightly to eat in the Old Famous Kitchen.

The peace and quiet is what does it for me and no noise from the street sweeper every morning though it may take a day to get used to the sound of the mosque and also the chickens.

Gene you have really inspired me to at least visit the old village next year when we visit Icmeler in June. I have been going for the past 4 years and have never been to the village, by the sounds of it I have missed quite a bit so next year it will be on the top of my list of must do's.
Lets keep our dreams and memories alive over the long winter months, I am fairly new to this but I am hoping to get to know all the really nice poeple who seem to use this site reguarly.
I also look forward to reading about everybody who has yet to go to Icmeler so that I can carry on living the dream.
