Why Icmeler is always a special place with special people

Postby Barbara » 20 Sep 2010 11:30

Hi

In light of recent derogatory remarks about Icmeler, I thought I would let you know why I would never say a bad word about such a lovely place and such lovely, thoughtful people.

I have been going to Icmeler since 1998 and have made many friends over there.

In June 2009 I was on holiday there when I received the devasting news that my mother has passed away. She was unwell, but had taken a turn for the worse and it was still totally unexpected.

With the help of my friends over there they took me to Dalaman Airport where they had organied a flight to Istanbul and then to Heathrow to get me home that same day. Unfortunatley I arrived at Dalaman too late and they brought me back to Icmeler where I finished my holiday with my friends, and we all travelled back together at the end of our holiday.

All I can say is that the love, help and consideration that I received at this terrible time just compounded my love for the place and the people.

The people in Icmeler know who they are but if I mention The Efes Inn, Havanas, Timeless and especially The Bamboo Restaurant - my thanks and love are with them always.

B xx

Barbara i agree completely
we have been called back twice now as my grandparents died twice when we have been in icmeler
its devastating but all our turkish friends did everything they could to help us
all of them were so supportive when we needed them in this very difficult period
will never forget what they did for us :)

I have a story quite similar that I posted on my return last year about Jimmy, the elderly man who's daughter died while they were over there.

The Turkish people did more for him than the English tour reps and they did it with real sincerity. :D

Although, thankfully, I have never been in this situation, I have just come back from Icmeler on Friday and was told by a friend that her cousins daughter had passed away whilst her cousin was still in Turkey ( not sure which resort)
My friend is quite concerned for her cousin about how she will get home and how she is, in a foreign country at a time like this.
I felt quite confident in reassuring her that the Turkish people will do their best to help her and of this I have no doubt. there are not many places you can say that about!

Hi

When looking back, it seemed surreal that I was in Icmeler, staying at my favourite hotel and had just had a lovely evening chatting with old friends, and talking about "family" when I got the devastating news on the return to my room.

And yes, with me too, the Tour Company Holiday Reps could only get me on a flight that was 2 days later as it was one of their flights. Whereas my friends over there found me a flight within hours, hence the rush to get me to Dalaman but just not quite in time...

They were all very symapthetic and also said some very wise and comforting things.

My Mam knew how much I love my holidays in Icmeler, she insisted that I went and seemed fine when I left. In a weird way I have to believe it was meant to be that I was in a place I love so much when she was taken away from me.

Hi Barbara,
I lost my lovely mum 6 years ago tomorrow. It was really strange because the previous afternoon I was talking to a work colleague saying how poorly mum had become and that I didn't think I would have her too much longer. I already had a holiday booked for the beginning of October and was beginning to think I might not make it. My Dad and brother moved heaven and earth to make sure that we could have mum's funeral before the holiday so that I could still get away - as it was we had the funeral in the morning and flew out later that day which seemed very surreal. Anyway, back to topic - that holiday was a real tonic to me. It was a comfort to be in such a lovely place with special people and I am convinced that it all helped me come to terms with my loss. I'm not a religious person but icmeler does seem to have a kind of spiritual quality which is also very comforting.
