mobillity scooters

Postby geordiespurs » 09 Jul 2008 14:24

just a quick question, i have a customer at work who uses an mobility scooter in england and he doesnt want to take it on holiday, but he prefers the freedom, rather than get pushed in a wheelchair. so i was wondering if there is anywhere in either icmeler or mamaris where he can hire on when he gets there

Not sure about icmeler, but there is one in Marmaris. Ir's just passed the Police station on the main strip if I remember rightly. They hire motorbikes and quads etc, but he did hae some mobility scooters outside aswell.

Not sure if this is any help, but when we were in Icmeler a couple of weeks ago, we did see a couple of people using mobility scooters. Maybe contact someone at ICR and see if they can either help you directly or know someone who might be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes you can hire a mobility scooter in Marmaris. It costs £60 per week I believe. If you want to PM me I can let you have more details.

We hired a mobility scooter in June on line from Marmaris Rentals they delivered it to hotel and collected it at end of holiday. Found it very useful my husband being slightly disabled and unable to walk long disances, taxi boats very helpful lifting it on and off, and no problems getting it charged at different bars, returning June next year have already booked it, hope this helps

I always take my mobility scooter with me as I wouldn't otherwise be able to go on holiday as my husband is disabled as well. Everything is made so easy. At the airport I take my scooter directly to the plane and only need to walk about four steps to my seat. My scooter is then taken to the hold. We're met at Dalaman and are taken quickly through visa and passport control to collect our luggage and my scooter. The help we receive is always excellent.

On the return journey my scooter has to be checked into the hold at the same time as the luggage. A member of the airport staff then takes us to the duty free area and collects us later to go to the departure lounge.

The only worry I had previously was what if my scooter broke down whilst on holiday? A few years ago I was approached at check in at Dalaman by someone who wanted all the details about my scooter as he said that his company hired things to tourists, were based in Marmaris and wanted to hire scooters out as well. I gave all the details and I noticed two years later that scooters were on their website. So no problem, if my scooter breaks down I can easily hire another one.

I have named the website on a previous post but either it was deleted or I didn't submit it correctly but it is easily
found by making a search (the company is named in the post before mine but I don't know whether it will be deleted or not as I'm not quite sure if it's classed as advertising!). This year I noticed that one can be hired from the Buffalo bar but I don't know how many there are available.

Sorry if this is a long post but I want to say how easy it is to go on holiday using a scooter especially with all the help given.

Hi
I wasn't sure if I could mention it as it appeared, then disappeared a couple of hours later on the Marmaris-Turunc posting, when I posted it in a couple of nights ago under "disability." Everyone goes out of their way to help whenever we're in Icmeler not only in the airport but all the bars and restaurants as well, especially when using the ramps as some of them can be quite steep and you can become stuck half way up.

I haven't received as much help when I've been to other countries and I wouldn't even think of going anywhere else having found Icmeler.

Hi ayesha
Some extra info for you. Many of the ramps are built too steeply and whilst a wheelchair can use them it is much more difficult with a scooter, as it is longer. The scooter often stops half way because there is an emergency cut out and it will often refuse to move. Someone always helps and by putting the scooter on manual it can easily be pushed that extra couple of feet to the top of the ramp and then switched back on again.

This year there were a few more ramps that were built better eg by the Set steakhouse, so things are definitely improving. I've always had a lot of help everywhere and even where there has not been a ramp my scooter has been lifted up for me. I now wouldn't hesitate to go anywhere in Icmeler even on my own as I'm confident that there won't be a problem. The scooter is also handy when you're self catering as I leave the supermarket like a pack horse and no-one else needs to carry anything! Roll on next July when we're back for another 3 weeks.
