Icmeler is certainly the least expensive of the resorts I've been to in Turkey. Also in general the staff are more friendly and helpful.Side was nice,we stayed in a small b&b in the old town and the beach was nice, but very German,no problem with that but the prices were all in Euros....!And more expensive but they do have a wide range of restaurants. Antalya we stayed in an Ottoman hotel in the old part, beautiful but we couldnt afford to drink there at all and in the city it was easy to get ripped off.A lot of the shops and bars werent friendly and its a man made beach that you get to via a restaurant, not cheap for anything really. Then Bitez the other year, large stray dogs roaming the beach and boulders in the sea. Also more expensive than Icmeler. My friend was at olu Deniz this year and she said the beds and umbrellas were 8 TL each and the restaurants were much more expensive than Icmeler. So we are booked for Icmeler again next year and my stepson and his girlfriend are going to Turkey for the first time in september for 10 days.I've never heard anyone say they wish they hadn't gone.I'm always happy to recommend it. :)

We decided to try Bodrum and Gumbet for a change one year, really wish now we hadnt. The people were no where near as friendly, definetly more expensive, couldnt believe how much more it was for trips !!.Shop keepers were not prepared to barter on prices,it was a take it or leave it attitude, and no comparison with the scenery.

I'm a relative newbie to Turkey, but I will say, that having visited Icmeler for the first time last year, I'm hooked.

My only trouble is, despite planning to go this september, I can't afford to get back there until 2011. :(

As for anywhere else. We found Kusadasi had much more history, both in the town and with Ephesus less than 10 miles away, ideal for those looking for good sightseeing.

But beware. Kusadasi is a cruise destination, so prices reflect that when the liners are in (sometimes double for everything) and we found it generally dearer than Icmeler too. And nowhere near as friendly.

There is a large Dutch :) and Russian  influence in Kusadasi too.

Icmeler is by far the best of the little of Turkey that we've seen. And we have friends who have experienced the same feelings as us.

Cheers

got back last night and I have to say it was great again we missed last yearwent to alanya, but we noticed that things are starting to return to how Icmeler was.Two years ago when we were there we thought it might have started down the Marmaris route and we noticed how many people were using loutish behaviour, but this holiday was like going back in time to our first visit to Icmeler and how we did`nt see any lager louts (sorry we did see one and he was soon put in his place) but what ever the mayor is doing to restore Icmeler back to it`s high standards I would like to say he is doing a great job
