Memories

16 Oct 2009 15:03

One from the archives, but at this moment still reflects how I feel about Icmeler and it is such a long wait to my holidays next May

I know some people are still on holiday and that the season isnt quite over but for me they are just memories now, those happy times in Icmeler.

They are but memories now,
Those walks along the promenade and taking lunch at the Erdem.
The boat trips were we visited the cave, fed the fish at the fish farm and swam from the boat into cristal clear waters.

Only memories now of the jeep safari when we visited the waterfall, walked out to sea on the sandbank at Oranihya and got involved in endless water fights with fellow jeepers.

My lonely walks in the early morning around the village, no one for company but the hens ,goats and numerous birds singing their morning song, with the rhythmic beat of the crickets in the background.
The smell of the land and off the bakers shop, so distinctive.

Nights spent in the restaurents and bars, enjoying a meal and a few drinks with friends, singing and dancing and watching the shows are all but fading memories.

The winter will be long and cold but as long as we can hang onto our memories the time will soon pass till we again return to our magical place.

I think it will sum up a lot of people's feelings Gene,
it certainly does mine.
I haven't been to Icmeler this year but will definately be back
next year.
I bet everyone on the forum has special memories of Icmeler
and it's people.

At least with the wonder of YouTube you can relive some holiday moments-just been watching some of the waiter dances in Richards Place and Deja Vu again.

Fortunately none of them feature me trying to do the Cha Cha slide after a few pints of Efes

Nice one Gene.

I also liked to wander down to the old village early. Got a real sense of going local at that time of day. Also being on the beach at 7am, practically alone, is wonderful.

I remember my first holiday as an adult, 34 years ago. Going down to the beach near Newquay harbour at 7 in the morning. I was 20. So was the temperature.

On September 4th this year, I went down to the beach at 7 in the morning again. Only this time it was Icmeler.
The temperature was a bit more than 20 and so was I.

But, for that moment I was 20 again.

That's what this place can do for you.
