We have always been told to only bring English notes to Turkey anyway, Donna, so we always go to the bank and get out English money before we come. It's interesting to learn that some people do try to change Scottish money though - I wouldn't have taken that chance, it's bad enough getting English folk to take our good Scottish cash!

We can hardly get English notes up here, you have to order them from the Bank like foreign currency, its so frustrating when we go on holiday, I have Travellers Cheques, English Notes, Scottish Notes and some Turkish Lira in my purse!

Nat West cashlines pay out English money.
I normally just go into the Bank of Scotland and get mine from there, never had to order it.

Hi there
We always just take English notes and get them from the NatWest machine outside our Asda. We just lift about £50.00 at a time and that way you don't get so many £20 notes cause the tenners are handy when paying for stufrf in the shops with English notes.

Dotty use natwest cash machine at your asda in kirkcaldy it only gives out english notes ......we had bother getting them from the bank so just made a few trips to asda instead .....easy problem solved off on sunday for two lovely weeks I hope cant wait

I find it strange that english notes are hard to come by in scotland, mind you i dont see many scottish ones in Kent..

We've never used English notes when in Turkey, we get our notes from Bank of Scotland but go to the business side as this is where the english notes are, the normal cashiers tend to have Scottish notes.

we always take english notes when going abroad anywhere cos they're more easily accepted.......and they're easy enough to get up here.
erik, I take the dog a walk on saltcoats beach sometimes, or ayr or prestwick or troon. spoilt for choice really.

We used English notes when paying for stuff like tshirts that are marked 3 for a tenner or if were told the price of something was ten pounds as if you pay in lira the shopkeepers don't give you a good exchange rate so you get better value using English notes.

Thanks for telling me that Sharon, I didn't know it was a NatWest machine at Asda's, makes things much easier than standing in a queue at the bank.

I take it that you can still spend the english £20 notes though??
One of the above posts mentions a deal on t-shirts selling for 2 or 3 of a tenner. Will they have £10 note to give you in change if you use a £20?

I needed to change a £20 note for two £10 ones - and the chap in the supermarket under the ICR office was more than happy to oblige. He's actually very helpful when it comes to changing money or travellers' cheques and gives some of the best rates in town too.

Yes you will get £10 note in change. You will find that you normally get your change in the currency you pay in. You will even get £1 coins in your change
